Entry #1 - Welcome to Willowbrook

Hi, it's me, Penelope Sinclaire, and this here, it's my diary.

I don't really know how to begin the writing process of a diary but after my traumatic work experience at Edgewater Asylum, I really needed to leave Ravenedge. I'm sad, I'm depressed, I'm feeling like nothing, but as my therapist said, I need to write this journal to explore my emotions and document my adventures in Willowbrook. I always heard good things about Willowbrook, how it's a town where the sense of community is really important and that everyone knows one another. I mean, compared to Ravenedge, Willowbrook is just a small town, barely any inhabitants, but I guess that's what makes it so special.

Anyway, I'm here to write about my first day here on Willowbrook, which was a pretty weird one; I mean, I wasn't really expecting to have a murder in town right on my first day but, we had one here. I was pretty surprised to find out that Willowbrook has no police force and that all "murders" that had to happen in this town for the past years were all ruled inconclusive and that none of the cases were solved. So, after finding out about the murder and how the town had no police force, I went to meet with Mayor Hawkins to ask for permission to investigate this murder on my own and with my equipment. At first, he seemed a bit concerned but he ended up giving me the green light and so the investigation began!

Before I did anything, I searched on the town's database to find out a bit more about our victim, Rosie May; according to the files, Rosie was a local crazy girl that pretty much everyone ignored; it seems she spent all of her time screaming across town how there was a group of killer rabbits (let's make a stop here, just so I can insert my personal thought: this woman must have serious mental issues like she believed the town was being hunted by killer rabbits. She was insane. I might have called my old co-workers back at Edgewater to come pick her up if she wasn't dead). Anyway, I didn't manage to find much more info on our crazy girl so I decided to ask around town for some more information about her.

I ended up speaking with Mayor Hawkins again since, according to the research I had made earlier, he was trying to get her committed to Edgewater (wow, guess I wasn't that far off the truth) so I ended up talking with him about that whole process; I didn't manage to get much information about their relationship but at least I managed to get to know Mayor Hawkins a bit. I also talked with some other people around town which was pretty fun: I met with one of Rosie's professors, Elsie Barker and she told me that Rosie was a brilliant student until last summer; after that summer, Elsie told us that Rosie became unstable and as people in town call her "crazy".

We also met with the victim's best friend, Nancy Rose and she informed me that Rosie was a great friend and that she believed Rosie really had experienced some traumatic event during the summer break that made her lose her mind. I'm starting to think that this won't be the perfect small town I had hoped for... After talking with Elsie and Nancy, I encountered the town's mechanic, Kayden Ward and he told me that he and Rosie were childhood friends but that she became weird after last summer; he told us that he believed in all of those conspiracy theories that Rosie was telling the town about, that a mysterious group was doing some bad stuff in town (if you ask me, that's all pretty unbelievable).

As the sun was setting, I also met with the town's very nice baker called Ashton Kennedy and he actually showed me around town which was very nice of him; when I asked him about Rosie, he told me that he didn't know much about her but that he believed that she was just an insane girl that had killed herself. Anyway, after meeting everyone I returned home and began my investigation into the clues the forensic team and that's when, after checking all the evidence, I managed to identify the killer as Ashton!

I ran to the mayor's office to inform him I had found the killer and after I showed him the evidence, Mayor Hawkins called the police of one of the neighboring towns to come pick him up. We went to meet with Ashton to make sure he didn't try to escape and while we were talking to him we managed to get a confession from his part; he told me that he couldn't allow Rosie to keep going around town disgracing his beliefs, that she wasn't worthy to live in Willowbrook and that she shouldn't have escaped the Higher One because he got mad with her trying to escape and ordered her death so she would learn the lesson.

The day after Ashton's arrest, I decided to go to the town's library to try and dig up some information about Rosie's alleged "killer rabbits" and about the Higher One; I managed to find some information about an ancient group of townspeople that gathered to worship an ancient god: Riysus, the god of Life and Death and that they all wore animal masks to hide their identities...

This is very peculiar because does this mean that this ancient group of people is back in town? I still think this is all a bunch of crazy talk so, I'm just gonna leave this in the past and move on. Tomorrow's gonna be a pretty fun day, the town is holding a small event so I should finally get to know some more people without them being involved in a murder. I'm excited to see what the future holds!
