Turn a Blind Eye is the eighth case of Mystery Shrouded in Mist, as well as the eighth case of the season. This is the second case to take place in the haunted district of Spiritspyre.
Plot[]
After discovering that author Jacinta Star was writing a book about the Corliss family, the family that was holding a key fragment and was currently residing in a study above the private bar The Cold Shoulder, they investigate and speak to the nearby bartender, who pointed them towards a ladder in the kitchen that leads to Jacinta's study. As they come up, they were horrified at the sight. They saw Jacinta's body, her eye bleeding everywhere on the marble desk. The horrifying thing that Nolan commented on, was that the killer wrote suicide notes out of Jacinta's blood and pasted them all over the study. Scarlet confirms that the killer used the initial blood from the eye and dug deep to collect blood from the brain from the various puncture wounds in the brain matter.
They suspect Gothic ghostwriter Skylar Vadoll after discovering her proofread manuscripts of Star's unfinished works, who confessed that she disliked Jacinta's content but still committed to her job. They also suspect the victim's date, Casimir Osborne, who was disappointed that the victim left him at the Cold Shoulder, and the temporary bartender at the Cold Shoulder, Fabio Mason, who said that the victim drank a lot, which confirmed Scarlet's findings of alcohol in the victim's system. While talking, Nolan shuddered over the suicide notes written in the victim's blood when a medium approaches them, saying that the victim wanted to speak with them.
The medium in question, Rex Saunders, offers a seat for Nolan and the player. Soon after, Saunders asks for Nolan and the player to clasp their hands before reciting some sort of antiquated Latin curse. They then see Jacinta, gripping her eye that was gushing blood. She begged the player to find her killer, saying that the killer followed her from this very seance ball. Shortly after, Nolan, Rex and the player were forced to look away as they heard the killer grip Jacinta's bloody pen and puncture her eyes many times as her screams echo in the ball. They investigate the bar and suspect author Ida Winters after discovering a form of rivalry between the two. They also discover that Jacinta was looking into the vast history of the Osbornes, which was the reason why she coerced Casimir. While talking, Nolan was still shuddered from the seance ritual before Skylar ran over with her clothing torn, confessing that Ida just attacked her.
They confront Ida, who was holding her head when Nolan and the player arrived in her office. When asked why she attacked Skylar, Ida said that Skylar accused her of stealing the victim's work post mortem and posting it as her own work of fiction. After confirming from Skylar that the victim's work on the Corliss family was stolen, they continue investigating Jacinta's murder until ultimately infringing Fabio as the murderer.
They catch Fabio shaking gin before Nolan confronted the temp bartender with murder. Fabio placed the shaker down and seemed appalled that they would ever accuse him of murder. However, as Nolan displayed the cold evidence, Fabio got angry and said that the victim would constantly dishonor the dead. Suddenly, Fabio's devil horns skew out as he grabs his nearby scythe, denouncing himself as the Grim Reaper. Fabio confesses that every night, young women would pass out in The Cold Shoulder and die of alcohol poisoning in their restrooms every night. However, before he could claim their souls, he would always sense a disturbance whenever. One night, after another young woman died of alcohol poisoning, he entered the bathroom and caught Jacinta, stealing their IDs and various other valuables. Fabio was appalled but let her be. Days later, he investigated the victim's study upstairs and found all their IDs, pinned up on the board. He then looked around and realized that Jacinta was using these girl's identities and making them into various horrible characters. Thinking that Jacinta should be punished, he grabbed her head and stabbed her many times in the eye, mocking her by writing a convincing suicide letter in her blood. Judge Ramero, knowing that Mason is the Grim Reaper, only sentenced him to three years in prison.
After the trial, Sabrina contacted Nolan, saying that there's a grave robber throughout Spiritspyre, and they just robbed the bodies of the Corliss family.
All three were shocked at the fact that the Corliss family was grave robbed. They were left with no thought on what to do until Nolan remembered that the victim wrote a book similiar to their situation. They ask Rex to conduct a seance to speak with the victim and he responded that he doesn't have his perfect crystal ball. After searching his trunk and polishing the medium's ball, Rex chants a Latin spell as Jacinta rises from the ball and was seen standing in front of the table. They ask Jacinta about the Grave Robber Mysteries, in which she relays the events. After connecting the dots, Jacinta says that her mind is fuzzy and that they would have to find her book in her study. They find the book in her study and send it to Crimson. Hours later, Crimson repeats the events as they know them but also explains the ending as a restless spirit of the deceased's family will soon wreak havoc and constrict the fear out of man's soul. Realizing that there's only one Corliss left standing, they rush over, in which the heir seemed hot headed that his family is gone. Nolan took a deep breath and attempted to assure that Reginald would not lose his temper. He explains that the person whose been grave robbing the Corlisses could also be the one who stole their key fragment in order to find another part of the key fragment with the corpse of the eldest Corliss, whose tomb was locked in a graveyard by multiple locks and each of the Corliss's bodies. They thank Reginald for his help and head off.
The player notices Sabrina acting kind of finicky. She vents and explains that she has a crush on one of the suspects during the investigation, Skylar, and wants to find out if she's the one. They find Skylar's gothic purse at the Cold Shoulder and Sabrina builds some courage to return it. Skylar was nonchalant as Sabrina was freaking out, shaking as she handed the purse back. Skylar asked if she was okay, before Sabrina's face grew a sanguine blush as she ran off with the player. Sabrina inched in for a hug, saying that she couldn't ask her on a date.
After Sabrina's hopeless romanticism, the team are relied by Chief Autumn that they have to head to the graveyard in an attempt to stop the grave robber from gathering the second key fragment!
