—Case Teaser

Through the Flames and the Ashes is a case featured in Criminal Case where it appears as the fifty-second case in Sinner's Enigma. It takes place as the third case in the Ashened Abyss district of Evergrace.

After the town had gone up in flames, Skylar then told the detectives an explosion had happened at the asylum a mere hour ago, and that witnesses saw Isabel Lannuzzi on the scene. Despite Isabel's last seen location, Chief Sinnett told the team that they needed to extinguish the burning town before it consumed Evergrace. While Cameron and the player braved the flames, they soon found the burning corpse of The Flame, firefighter turned arsonist Earl Paterson, amongst the flames. They then recovered clues in the burning town and at the Evergrace fire department to suspect fire department chief Julian Conrad, Marblewood sheriff Carmine Sanchez and anarchist Ashe Monaco in the homicide. Soon after, they were informed by Jason that he had found traces of dirt from the Ashened Abyss woods, meaning he was there before his death.

The player and Cameron then headed to the Ashened Abyss woods, where they found proof that Earl had escaped from the asylum through the woods. They then suspected animal ranger Samuel Howler and Vexation Woods herbalist Kat Ingleton in the homicide, soon discovering the killer helped Earl escape by sending him messages under the guise of Bible quotes. They then discovered that Earl had pleaded for Julian's help by sending him letters of pleas and that Ashe saw the victim run into the burning town before his death. Soon after, they were informed that the town was ablaze, once again. After the team investigated the burning town, they then discovered Samuel’s pet wolf had accidentally knocked over a candle, beginning the second fire. They also discovered that Carmine visited the victim, the sheriff explaining that she was trying to find out more on the Resistance’s plans since Earl helped corrupt deputy mayor Ivette Halberd. They also found out that Kat was the victim’s adopted daughter before they collected enough evidence to arrest...
