Storm on the Horizon is a case featured in Criminal Case, appearing as the thirty-seventh case of the game. It is the thirty-seventh case set in the city of Crimsonden and also the first one to take place in the Lighthouse Coast district.
Plot[]
The team went to Lighthouse Coast, to discuss their next plans against the conspiracy and the serial killer, with Corinne reflecting on the fact that Nicholas, her mentor betrayed her by turning Lana O'Malley into a monster, before Allison and Kat made to the new station, saying that they were taking photographs near the lighthouse coast, and had found a body on the docks. The team went to the docks, to find the body of fisherwoman's assistant Bud Spencer. The team suspected the victim's boss, fisherwoman Phyllis Selby, who said that the victim was a reliable employee. The team searched the fish market to suspect Anne Spencer, the victim's wife, and a market seller named Matt Wilson. The team found out that the killer eats tuna, and is superstitious, before Elijah rushed in saying that he knew the victim from his military days.
The team asked Elijah to elaborate, and he led the team to the old military barracks. The team suspected esteemed troop commander Rex Ridley, who was reunited with Elijah and proudly showed off a medla. Elijah, who was reluctant to talk to him backed slightly. The team also suspected barista Hunter Jensen who said he was trying to find some clues on the military barracks. The team also learnt that the killer was right-handed, before learning that Phyllis had threatened to fire the victim after the victim was found stealing from the market. The team also learnt that Matt had tried to help Bud with his PTSD after returning from war, but Bud had refused, before learning that Elijah and Rex had been hiding something.
The team confronted Rex as he was the suspect in the case, and Rex revealed that the medal he had won for killing an enemy commander had actually been a trap set by Bud, and not a heroic charge as they had pretended. Rex hung his head in shame, before the team learned that Anne was sad that the victim had forgotten their marriage anniversary. Finally it was found that Hunter had a negative view of soldiers in the city, as he had once been to an anti-war protest, which was dealt with violently by the soldiers, souring Hunter's view on them. After finding all the clues, the team arrested Matt for the murder.
The team confronted Matt asking why he killed Bud, but Matt refused the allegations saying that he did not kill Bud. The team continued to confront Matt about the murder before he broke down and said he was forced into it. He said that his wife had been a nurse in the army, but she had died on the frontlines by enemy troops. Matt wasn't eligible for financial aid as a military spouse, and to feed his kids, he had began to starve, when Rex approached him and gave him money weekly, for minor things, such as moving a few files here and there. Rex one day said that Matt had to kill Bud, because Rex wanted to coverup the trap set by him, and that Bud had connections with a figure in the River Banks district. Matt tried to inquire but Rex threatened to cut off the money supply, and Matt forcefully drowned Bud. Judge Clarke-Strickland sympathized with Matt's worries, but sentenced him to 13 years in prison. Elijah then mentioned that they had to find why Bud's connections with the figure and confront Rex about the murder.
The team went to confront Rex when Elijah stopped them, saying that they needed to be more careful. Kat asked Elijah why he was hesitant of Rex during the entire case, and Elijah refused to elaborate. The team decided to search the military barracks, where they found an old security camera. Joel said that the security camera showed a deal being made between Matt and Rex. The team went to Rex to confront him about the deal and he sarcastically said that a deal could be about anything, before Elijah punched him. Rex then said homophobic things to Elijah, saying that he regretting taking Elijah under his wing in the army, and that he would never bring true justice, to which Allison slapped him saying that he was a homophobic asshole, and a criminal, and that they would find evidence regarding the crime.
Allison then comforted Elijah saying that Rex's words meant nothing to the team, before prison warden Seth Young rushed into the new police station. Seth gravely said that some prisoner releases had been requested, and the team went to the fish markets to find the document. The document was found and sent to Rosalyn Clarke-Strickland who said that the prisoners release requested were Evelyn Harmon and George Fitzroy, Rosalyn said that the prisoners' release was stamped by Eleanor, but the partial DNA profile on the stamp revealed it was faked. This proved that Eleanor was not the traitor, before Seth called them thanking for the release files. The team realized that the traitor had released Evelyn and George to target Malcolm and Jean to which Jean said that the traitor was getting low but he would not let it bother him.
The team then learnt that the conspiracy had money troubles. The team decided to go to the fishing docks, where they found a wet map. The team recovered the text on the document which said according to Kat's translation, that the conspiracy had their sights on a sunken ship, and its money. The team decided to ask Phyllis Selby for scuba equipment, and she demanded money. The team reluctantly gathered up the money, and Jean and the player put on the scuba gear only to find a dead woman near the ship.
