Slayte is the twenty-third case in PetersCorporal's second season, Blue Coasts, as well as the second one in the New Lakeland district.

Case Background

Nora MacMillon was talking to the player about how upset she was that Hans Rougel was now a mayoral candidate, after making fun of him for years that he would never be the Mayor. During the conversation, she also told the player that the Bob Way she had mentioned during her nervous crisis in a previous investigation was actually the escaped prisoner who had killed her previous police partner and boyfriend, Jean-Paul Takeda. Suddenly, James Robert appeared to inform them that the Civic Alliance was holding an event to celebrate their participation in the elections and to announce who their candidate would be, but the celebration stopped when one politician called Martin Betancourt dropped dead out of the blue.

After interrogating Andrea Kissling (mayoral candidate for the Civic Alliance) along with some other politicians, including Samuel Papineau who was dating the victim, Violet Nearnight told the player that Mayor Danniel Svykozsky had tweeted about the murder. Since no news of the case had gotten around yet, this meant that someone from within the Civic Alliance was giving information to the Mayor.

Besides discovering that Elijah Scarano (a member of the party) was trying to make a voodoo doll of the victim in order to protect him, the team also found out that Andrea Kissling was sure that Danniel Svykozsky was going to rig the elections in his favor, also claiming that he had called for elections as a facade from the beginning, only to give more credibility to his government. Due to this, she was planning to cheat in the elections as well in order not to lose, going as far to threatening Martin to remove him from the slate because he didn't want to commit fraud. While discussing this topic, Violet announced to the player and Nora that after that day's session, the City Council had officially passed the Laila Myers bill.

With the controversial bill only left to be ratified by Svykozsky the next day (which he would do anyway to protect his public image), the team found out from both Quintus Iacovelli and Charlotte Eastridge (both wealthy supporters of the Civic Alliance) that they liked Martin but that they both strongly disagreed with his support of the Laila Myers bill, with Charlotte even suing him for giving speeches in support of it to the city councillors. After finding some final pieces of evidence, the team was able to arrest Quintus Iacovelli for the murder.

After denying it, he ended up admitting he had no choice but to kill Martin because he was investing all of his money in his political career, and with Martin's support of more leftist projects, the Civic Alliance would end up losing the elections due to their voters (which are mainly centrists) not wanting to support someone like Martin Betancourt. During his trial, he tried to plead his innocence again but there was footage of his confession to the player, which led to Nora calling the situation "pathetic". Judge Peggy Jasmine sentenced him to 2 years in the Psychiatric Prison Hospital so he could continue his treatment, followed by 50 years in jail with no chance for parole. After the trial, Nora talked about the Laila Myers bill and the conversation drifted over to her own personal situation, revealing that Idaho MacMillon was in fact Jean-Paul Takeda's daughter, and not Pierre's, since Nora was already pregnant when Jean-Paul got killed by Bob Way.

The next day, the Civic Alliance held their event again at the same venue, this time with no murders. Knowing that there was someone inside the party that was leaking information to Mayor Svykozsky, Nora and the player decided to go there again in order to investigate and protect the integrity of the local democracy. They found out that Martin had been campaigning for a voting system change, switching from digital votes back to paper ballots since it was more secure, but no one followed his idea.

Apart from that, they also found a prepaid cricket phone in a trash bin, whose owner they couldn't determine but judging from the messages they'd been exchanging with Andrea Kissling, they seemed to be an informant that gave her intelligence about Svykozsky. When Andrea asked what new info they had on the Mayor, this person simply replied "Martin Jenkins", which scared and shocked Nora. Martin Jenkins was the only member of MAFIA that the team hadn't arrested back in Evergreen Tops, since no one knew where he was and the police database had practically no info about him. He was also not mentioned in the list of members that Gary Perkins had given to the player. He was also the one who had ordered the murders of Mark Hilton and Clive Goldman, as well as the raid on Evergreen Paradise (cases #1#2 and #3). The team did not know why the Mayor would be involved with a mobster and murderer, but they were gonna ask both Svykozsky about this issue and Andrea about her informant. Svykozsky said that Jenkins was just a man he was planning to hire as a campaign advisor and that they had only communicated via e-mail without having ever met. When he was told that the man in question was a murderer and dangerous criminal, he vowed to stop talking to him and not get involved with such a person. For her part, Andrea Kissling said that having an informant was necessary in politics and refused to co-operate with the police since she also had intentions to cheat in the elections.

Later that day, Annabelle Chashiroua found an old photograph of Marthin Farren's cabin within the pages of his manuscript autobiography, which had been their reason for relocating to New Lakeland in the first place. Taking into account the angle from which the hills and lake were seen, the player managed to identify 2 cabins who could be the one where Marthin Farren had lived for some time. Both of them turned out to belong to Arnold Farren, an insurance company CEO and descendant of Marthin who had inherited one of the cabins from him and bought the other one later. Without being able to tell which was which, the player and Nora went to talk to him and asked for permission to investigate both of his cabins, which he accepted.
