Case Background

After the player's last investigation, the team had found out that The Kitty Cats had been involved in an arson in Shokunin Grove, which had taken the life of an unidentified victim and which had also taken place the same day that Candace Hunter had been murdered. Days later, as Jerry Bryar talked to the player about the beautiful place that Shokunin Grove was, a murder was reported right in that place, the victim being one of the forest's artisans called Ignatius Mallett.

After searching the hostel room where he lived with other artists, the team found out about a mysterious fortune teller called Sir Gregor, who fit the description of the man who had been investigating Reuben Thacks' death at the newspaper library. Jerry and the player asked him both about the victim and the cold case, but he kept overacting his fortune teller character and made it a bit difficult to have a conversation with him. Besides that, Violet Nearnight saw on the victim's social media that he had gone to the casino the previous night (hours before his death) to hook up with Laila Myers, one of The Kitty Cats. Jerry saw Laila's one-night-stand with the victim as a chance to investigate more about the prostitution ring. Besides, the team discovered that before leaving the casino with Laila, Ignatius had won 500,000 dollars but had decided to return to the hostel with her and cash out the prize later, which he eventually could not do.

Eventually, the team gathered enough evidence to arrest Macarena Suertegaray, a mandalas seller from Shokunin Grove, for Ignatius' murder. She denied being the killer but then suddenly burst into rage and said that she had to sacrifice Ignatius' life for the sake of Shokunin Grove, which he was planning to buy after winning half a million dollars at the casino. This would mean that one of the city's most beautiful locations would be forever gone, as well as all of the different cultures that can be seen there, and all of the artists and artisans would lose their jobs just so Ignatius could set up his own business there. Judge Peggy Jasmine sentenced her to 40 years in Blue Coasts Psychiatric Prison Hospital.

After the trial, Annabelle Chashiroua approached Jerry and the player to tell them that after reading the case report, she noticed that Sir Gregor was in the suspects roster and told them that he was actually the old man who had been a key witness in the murder of the four prostitutes six years ago. This meant that the old witness was still alive instead of having died in the Shokunin Grive arson caused by The Kitty Cats back then as they had previously theorized, which implied that the person who had died in the fire remained unidentified. Knowing this, Jerry and the player went to talk to Sir Gregor about the old fire to get information about The Kitty Cats but he refused to talk about either the quadruple homicide or the Shokunin Grove fire. So therefore, Jerry decided to ask him about Reuben Thacks since he'd been seen reading newspapers from the time of his death. Sir Gregor said he'd look for his notes, but not trusting him, Jerry looked for them too and the player found them first. In his notebook, they found a newspaper cutout from November 1918 (the month of Reuben's death) saying that the Royal Family of Frankland would hold a royal parade on the streets of Blue Coasts. This parade had to be related to his death, since Reuben had been sentenced to death for royal treason against Frankland. Upon giving Sir Gregor his notebook back, he said that the team wouldn't solve Reuben's case before he did.

The team also tried to find out who Laila's pimp was, since they needed to arrest the other two that were still free and exploiting prostitutes. Laila did not co-operate since she said she preferred having trouble with the cops instead of her boss, so the player and Jerry went back to the hostel where Ignatius lived and found a condom that he had used with a certain Camilla Sweeney who appeared to be a prostitute working every night at Groovey Booze, a bar at Newcoast Shopping Center. With no other lead towards the other bosses of The Kitty Cats, the team decided to focus all of their attention on Camilla now.
