Shift of Doom is a case featured in Criminal Case, appearing as the thirtieth case of the game as well as the city of Alpha Bay, and the fourth one to take place in the Alpha University district.

Plot[]

As Susan informed the team about a murder which took place at the roadside cafeteria, Chief Prince sent her and the player to investigate the case. After reaching there, they found a young girl lying dead with a cigarette between her lips.

After identifying her as a waitress of the very cafe named Sabrina Rhoades, the team searched the place and flagged the part-time cashier of the shop, Yoyo Ip as a suspect who said that the victim was a cheerleader as well, prompting the team to search the nearby baseball playground. There, they found some clues which led them to cheerleader Cleo Jean with whom the victim used to work all the time, and baseball player Adrian Stein who hated the victim since she'd always try to distract him from his game for no reason. Eva said the victim wasn't actually smoking a cigarette and that it was a device that was programmed to emit poisonous gas instead of smoke. However, counting how the killer managed to create such a thing, she deduced they were good at electronics.

After a while, Misty approached the team to say that Zvone Setil had been placed under temporary custody for street racing. Hearing so, the team visited him in the interrogation room who was regretting his actions. Anyway, when asked about Sabrina, he said that he had seen her outside the cafe a couple of times at the same place where Misty arrested him, promoting the team to search the area. After doing so, they managed to flag entrepreneur Mark Reynolds as a suspect who was totally disgusted to see Susan while she suddenly got depressed, however, it was revealed that he was Sabrina's friend since high school. Later on, Yoyo and Cleo were interrogated once again after it was discovered that Yoyo had complained against the victim for being too flirty with customers and that the victim once locked Cleo in a small room just for fun despite knowing she was claustrophobic.

Soon afterwards, Misty appeared again and informed the team that Adrian was celebrating the victim's death at the racing spot. So, the team went there as soon as possible and saw Adrian who was getting ready for a race. The team quickly placed him under temporary custody and questioned him about his celebration, and he replied that Sabrina was just a pain in the neck as she'd always try to defame him and make him lose concentration from his game only because he broke up with her, and that he wasn't afraid to admit he was pretty relieved. Shortly after, Mark and Zvone were interrogated as well, since Sabrina was helping Mark to promote his inventions, while Zvone had been driven away from the cafe by Sabrina in front of almost 20 people a few days ago after he put up a fight with a waiter.

Finally, the team searched the primary scene and got all the clues required to arrest Zvone for the murder.

Zvone tried to deny but eventually he had no choice but to admit as he turned out to be a bad liar. He said he hated Sabrina ever since she drove him away from the cafeteria in front of others. This made him enough angry to seek revenge, so he went to the baseball playground to hit upon a plan. But after coming back from there, he found a note in his bag which wrote he'd get 1 million dollar only if he killed Sabrina. Zvone decided to kill two birds with one stone and did so. Susan asked him if he got the money, and he replied in the negative before saying that he was supposed to get that after a few hours but the police totally ruined that chance. He then lowered his voice and tried to reason with the team, saying he'd share half with them if they let him go, only for Susan to get disgusted. At the trial, Judge Powell sentenced him 20 years in jail for the murder and for trying to distract the police.

Post-trial, while the player was talking with Eva about the case, Troy approached them and said Susan ran away from the station. Eva asked what happened to her, and he replied she got depressed after seeing Mark. Understanding the situation, Eva decided to explain it to the player. She said Mark was actually Susan's ex and that the previous year she was invited to a party organized by Reynolds family. But after a few hours the party started, two armed guy appeared there and threatened them, causing Susan to act fast only for her gun to misfire and the bullet shot Mark's mother, killing her. Already losing his father years ago, Mark couldn't bear it and broke up with her. But Susan still loved him, that's why she tried to avoid relationships, just like she did to Jennifer Slytherin. However, Eva and the player went to the racing spot to find her and questioned Mark who was caught talking with her by a camera. He said she had approached him to apologize saying that was an accident, but he simply said no. Anyway, following his suggestion, the team searched the cafeteria as it was the place where they used to meet. Fortunately, they could find her there, who was silently crying and regretting her actions, causing Eva to hug her and say that all would be alright.

Meanwhile, Aiden and the player met Zvone to know who instructed him to kill Sabrina and went to the baseball playground where they found a water bottle instructing Adrian to carry the note to Zvone. Seeing how that note said Adrian would get one million dollar as well, the team quickly went to see him who was counting a lot of money. Aiden asked how much money was that, and he replied he didn't bother to count, but it'd be not less than a million dollar. Aiden asked how he got so much money, and he replied he wouldn't say that. Aiden then said him about the letter they found earlier and told him that he'd need to go to prison if he didn't reveal how he got the money. But as he still denied to say anything but that he didn't give any letter to anyone, the team didn't trust him and decided to place him under temporary custody.

Later on, Troy excitedly approached the team and said he had managed to decrypt the first layer out of two of the Watery Systems tablet. He revealed the tablet contained every single info about all the members of the organization, and that it most likely belonged to one of the members. Aiden then shared what they discovered about Adrian and Zvone, before speculating that there could be a mastermind out there as the murders seemed very connected to him. Right then, Misty approached them and said Noby Foreman's body had been stolen from the graveyard.
