Pawsitive in the Bad Times is a case featured in Criminal Case as the one-hundred and seventy-third case of the game. It is the fifty-eighth case of The Mystery and the sixth and final case in Beverly Boulevard.

Plot[]

Previously, Major told Diana and the player that bones had been found in a local animal shelter. They then headed to the animal shelter, where they found human-sized bones, drastically corroded. Ethan then confirmed that the corroding of the human bones was caused by sulfuric acid, and that someone, whoever killed the victim, was most likely trying to hide the identity of the bones' owner, and that they had succeeded. Diana and the player then investigated the shelter and the nearby square, where they found clues to suspect animal shelter owner Erik Huntington, Maxwell's husband and investigative reporter Joseph Marlow, and wolf tamer Clark Moore, in the mysterious homicide. Afterwards, as Diana and the player discussed the mysterious victim's identity, Diana got a phone call, the caller telling them that a body had been found.

The caller, their own Chief Tempest told them with sorrow in her eyes as she then told them that she had found a body, telling them it was bad news. Diana and the player then hurried to the mayor's estate, where they found the body of city Mayor Leonard Oakley, some of his bones missing. Ethan soon confirmed that the bones matched Leonard's body, confirming him as the victim. They then suspected politician and mayor's assistant Theodore Fawkes, Deputy Mayor Nancy Teagan and the victim's daughter Ophelia Oakley in the murder. Soon after, they then discovered Erik was appealing to the Mayor for more shelter funding, and that Clark was trying to get Shawn removed from the city, which led Joseph to write about Clark in the news. Shortly after, as the detectives discussed their dark findings, they were informed by Major that rioters and citizens were ravaging the streets, demanding Leonard's killer to be found.

After they heard that citizens were rioting, they then hurried to investigate Leonard's murder while Major, Jacob and Diego managed the crowds. They then discovered that Ophelia believed that her father didn't accept her for who she was, prompting her to break his award. However, she later discovered that he accepted her and loved her no matter what. They also found out that Theodore was put on suspension after accidentally spilling coffee on important papers, Nancy was found to have disagreed with some of the Mayor's decisions for the city and that Leigh was asked to come to the mayor's home to talk about her recent stress as Chief. Despite all the motives discovered to have little hate for the beloved Mayor, Diana and the player finally collected enough evidence to arrest Theodore Fawkes for the homicide of the mayor.

The player and Diana then confronted Theodore about the murder of the mayor and Theodore told them that it was for the betterment of the world. He then told them that he had joined the cult to create a better world with the organization. He then confessed in a heartbroken voice as he then explained how places he had gone to around the world on a political campaign drove him to fight for a better world. He then said that after seeing places like countries in Africa and the Middle East, he drove to help the poor and downtrodden, all for world peace. He then told them that he had found out about the organization over a year ago and learned that they were advocating for a better, safer and fair world, which motivated him to join them. He then told them that it was up to him to advocate and appeal to the citizens of Rosenoque, so they could potentially be more appealed to him and the organization's plans. He also dognapped and experimented on a few dogs, for a great plan that would help in the takeover of the city, before the leader personally asked him to kidnap the judge and kill the mayor. Theodore then agreed, before kidnapping Denise, killing Leonard and removing his bones before he then corroded them to throw them off. When Diana demanded for Theodore to tell them what the plan was, the politician simply told them that the wolf's bite and snake's venom shall unite before Diana arrested him for the murder and his other crimes. Afterwards, as they locked Theodore up in the holding cells, they then were confronted by Major, who told them that he had saw the interrogation and that Theodore had uttered the motto of the Gaulstone Cult.

The player and Major then confronted Theodore about the Gaulstone Cult and the Barker then admitted that the Cult existed for a couple years now and that they were planning for the betterment of the world. He then confessed that it all started with Jordan Brown and that the city, and the world, would be in a better place once the Cult carried on with their plans. Major then shook off the Barker's taunts and told the player that they had to rescue the judge and the missing dogs, the duo then heading to find out more in the animal shelter. They then found Theodore's wallet and recovered a piece of paper inside the wallet, soon finding a serial number. Erika then confirmed that it was coordinates of an abandoned warehouse, prompting Major and the player to head there, where they found a locked door that the player cracked open. They then found the judge covered in dirt and dust, as well a horde of dogs that Denise confirmed as the ones who had gone missing. Major and the player then worked to return all the dogs to their owners, including Raspberry Muffin and Cookie Dough to socialite Roxanne Pansino, who thanked the detectives for their hard work to find the dogs.

Afterwards, Major and the player then went to see the Chief, who told them that they needed to find out more about the Gaulstone Cult's origins. Major and the player then headed to the mayor's office, thinking that the mayor's murder was cause for something else aside a mere assassination to scare the citizens. They then found a torn property deed that the player restored and Alexandra and Erika revealed that the property deed was for an abandoned technology company office owned by Horatio Fontaine in the district of Horizon Station, a district composed of buildings and streets that had been abandoned by the city after an explosion there. Erika then revealed that radio signals had been discovered there per the mayor's notes, meaning that the Gaulstone Cult could be carrying out their plans in the abandoned district, hence why they were able to operate hidden from the shadows. They then questioned Chelsea Chapman, who told them that she was able to confirm that she and Ina Landry were asked by the cult's leader to cause an explosion that would scare the city into abandoning it, with the influence of Theodore. She then apologized for not thinking of the abandoned district as she had been focused on recovery and Major reassured her, telling her that recovery was the right direction to go, knowing his family's past with the cult. Afterwards, they then informed Nancy, who had become the city's interim mayor in light of the Mayor's murder, who told them that they had her permission to investigate Horizon Station and take down the Gaulstone Cult, once and for all.

After all the discoveries and development of the organization's plans, Chief Tempest then told them that if Horatio Fontaine and the cult had plans occurring in the abandoned district of Horizon Station, they would need to get to the abandoned technology company and find out what the Cult is up to "save the world for the better".
