Made A Death of Themselves is the eighth case of Criminal Case as the eighth case of Lost in Jakarta. It is the third case to take place in the administrative city of West Jakarta.
Plot[]
The team reached Glodok (known as the Chinatown of Jakarta) to dissuade another crime based on the Vir Infernum's last method: suffocation. At the locale, Chief Daus ordained the player and Hassan to be cautious about uncertain activities around the market streets. But before they'd go, Anggo ran as rapidly as feasible to the nearby bathroom to pee. Likewise, the duo successfully overhauled all places and eventually finishing it off by sauntering into the herbal shop which is tracked down at the very end of the street where they totter across the suffocated corpse of an army colonel whose identity is still unidentified, with his mouth stuffed with green powder that matches an herb, with a drop of blood and foam embodying it. Glimpsing another dead body and his situation, Hassan and the player can substantiate that the colonel was a part of the Vir Infernum murders like the other two.
The duo brought the body to Magdalena, as she was beheld texting her friend, Tiara on her phone with a smile drawn on her face. The goofy Hassan tried to jumpscare her again but was spotted mid-way, with the nurse gazing at the boy in annoyance, and then pinched his arms and interrogated him what'd he do sarcastically, compelling the boy to howl in pain. Apart from the comic relief, Magdalena concentrated back on her work and ascertained the duo that the colonel had died from the herbal itself, which incorporates a mixture of deadly substances such as nicotine, tetrodotoxin, and mercury. And with the high dose of percentage stuffed into his mouth which affixed his progression of departing by suffocating him, it's clear that he died at least under five minutes. Using logic, there's no way individuals without knowledge of Chinese medicine to engage in such crime as picking one herbal was hard enough, let alone creating one. In other words, the killer knows Chinese medicine.
In the norm of the investigation, the duo fumbled across a dog tag which forages as Antonius Yew, giving the ID of the victim. But then, Hassan comprehended the victim has the surname Yew on him, which makes him bothered especially when he speculates the victim might correlate to their lab chief, Anggo and so does the commissioner, Daniel Yew. Having no alternative, the team suspected Anggo of the crime as he ran away to go to the restroom earlier which made him suspicious a little bit. The lab chief was in impact hearing the duo would judge him just because he took off to the restroom, and confided the tandem he didn't recognize his father personally and asked what was the reason he would devote such a crime to the man he barely interacted with. And after attributing their lab chief as a suspect, the team reached into the commissioner to inform his relative's murder. The commissioner was hardly surprised but still felt grief hearing his brother die unfairly and beseeched the team to reveal the monster behind the crime. And finally, the team placed the herbal shop owner, Esther Gwok as a suspect where she was flabbergast to hear a murder in her shop. The frantic old lady speculated that it must be the work of the demons, and was so scared that she started praying out. With all of the investigation wrapped up, the duo heard information from a flock of crowds saying that they had captured a suspicious individual on the streets.
As soon as the pair overheard the statement above, they forthwith approached the crowd and glimpsed a familiar face, who came out to be none other than Hassan's very own half-brother, Lukman Ong who was bound on the wall with slight injuries. Our partner was stupefied seeing his half-brother back and murmured the student about the situation he's warped on, and Lukman responded with animosity seen on his face, telling the flock of bystanders mistook him as a murderer just because he fled out from the store after sighting the body earlier before the team arrived, and clamored the crowd persecuted him for minutes about his "transgressions" which pissed him off. The team sought more around the streets and ultimately placed war veteran Ewing Gunawan as a suspect after his dog tags were found near the victim's truck, where the veteran was bewildered and prayed when he was enlightened about his boss' murder. Eventually, the team obtained enough evidence to crush down two lies from our suspects, with both Yews as the fundamental ones mentioned. Anggo never went to the bathroom, he actually went to meet his father to thwart him about his illegal ways where he tortured a 12-year-old for stealing his wallet with methods such as beating, burning his skin with a cigar, and cracked his bones, but as soon as Anggo reached the shop, he staggered across his father's corpse instead. And as for the commissioner, he had a scuffle with his brother because he speculated his brother may be liable for murder two years ago, but the late colonel suppressed all of it and fought the commissioner after feeling offended. After gaining enough clues to strengthen the progress, Fanny phoned Hassan and the player, saying she spotted the herbal shop owner, Esther Gwok at the train station who was about to skip town.
The pair flickered through the train station as fast as possible to stave off the herbalist from fleeing the crime scenes due to her situation as a suspect, there they sighted the herbalist clenching her briefcase with anxiety and fear drawn on her face. The pair thus loomed closer to the herbalist and queried why'd she flew away from the scene, and the herbalist commenced to elucidate that the Gods may have cursed her after she discovered the corpse of the very man she abhorred in her shop, frightening her due to her superstitious beliefs. When asked for a detailed basis, the herbalist started to retell from the beginning where the victim came to her shop to snatch her medicines without payment as he used his position as an army colonel to obtain free items for his joy. When she refused, the victim battered her medicines by shoving them until it was scattered on the ground. Ultimately, we've gathered evidence to disclose another lie from the remaining suspects with the first being the high schooler, Lukman who conceded he had gone through extensive research to assist the team upon revealing the Vir Infernum and believed Antonius was one of the targets. When trying to inform the general, however, the victim ends up threatening to fire his revolver at the high schooler if he doesn't leave him alone. And as for the war veteran Ewing Gunawan, he was stressed out at his boss who disbursed his life scamming people through the streets just for his joy due to his position as an army colonel, hence why he broke the victim's medal of honor as he believed the victim was nothing more but a coward. With all shreds of evidence collected, the team successfully apprehended Ewing Gunawan as the culprit behind the case.
The pair shifted toward the war veteran and condemned him for the crime as the veteran stood aghast and tumbled his jaw, telling the duo he had nothing to do with his boss. But the duo was able to disseminate concrete evidence to close down all credible lies which render the veteran to snap, and confessed to the murder but notified the duo it was all inflicted by a misunderstanding. Recollecting that one case in Srengseng where the killer killed her victim out of misunderstanding, we mandated a straight answer from the veteran himself primarily about his association with the Vir Infernum. However, Ewing asserted he didn't recognize who this "Vir Infernum" self was and continued to confess from the beginning. Two years ago, Ewing had a 12-year old son that he raised alone after his wife's cessation a week ago and professed to raise him for his late wife, but then one day...his house was looted, everything was damaged. The panicked veteran surged inside his tenancy and glimpsed his very son, lying on the ground with wounds inflicted by a fist, a cigar, and cracked limbs. In the hospital, however, the boy died from his injuries...and the veteran couldn't accept the outcomes until, on the present day, a cloaked man with a mask hovers toward the veteran and discloses to him everything about the case of his son's death, which according to him...was perpetrated by Antonius and his goons to discover a hidden gold treasure which coordinates directly to Ewing's home.
As the veteran was imbued with animosity, the cloaked man gave him multiple bags of medicine for him to choose to stuff and kill the victim. And arriving at the herbal shop, he observed Antonius try to smuggle a medicine whilst the owner was gone praying, and without any pauses...the veteran grasped the colonel and stuffed the medicine in his mouth and due to the mix of lethal components, the colonel died in a matter of minutes. Whilst retreating to the cloaked man, all he sighted was a note attached to a tablet and while the veteran tried to peek at the tablet's contents as the note instructed him to do so, he had discovered the real truth...that his son was actually killed by a local gang, and they all have been arrested a long time ago. Ewing fell on his knees, begging the team to understand as all of this was a misunderstanding, but Hassan sighed and clarified to the veteran that the "cloaked man" was the very same Vir Infernum they mentioned not a long time ago, allotting the veteran to regret what he had done as he can't handle the fact he had assisted a serial killer to commit his crimes. In court, Judge Ihsan understands his nature of the crime and sentenced the veteran to 20 years imprisonment.
Following the detainment of Ewing Gunawan for the murder of Colonel Antonius Yew, Hassan and the player retreated to the makeshift headquarters they've set on the alley. Chief Daus applauded the duo for the reasonable work until he got a phone call from Hassan's half-brother Lukman. The student notified the team about his findings of the Vir Infernum and wanted them to meet at a disclosed location, which is none other than the herbal shop as it was closed and the owner had left the place but forgot to latch the door of her store. Reaching there, Lukman greeted the player and his half-brother as he was about to illustrate his discoveries from start to finish. But before he could even glance at the first line, a beeping tone was heard...worrying the student as he feared the Vir Infernum might spy on them and implored the duo to dig through potential spy cams and audio recorders to safeguard their lives. As soon as the duo shuffled through the scene, they found a recorder near the Buddha statue and carried it to Ridyan for him to sabotage it which he did with ease as it was his expertise to do so. Relieved to disable the potential recorder used by the serial killer, the pair retreated to the site where Lukman was in and the student had agreed to continue as it was safer than before.
The boy made a connection about the murders of the scout in Srengseng, the college student in BINUS, and the army colonel recently as the victims were investigating, related to the serial killer's original victims, knew or had offended the Vir Infernum. For example, Rangga Alimansyah made an account on the internet days ago about his findings of the serial killer and got killed by burning, the same as one of the serial killer's victims. As for Widya Marsianny's case, she's the daughter of one of the victims from the Vir Infernum's case two years ago, a woman by the name of Linda Marsianny. In addition to Colonel Antonius Yew's case, the colonel witnessed one of the crimes committed by the serial killer but just interpreted the killer's identity as he came upon the individual once again and tried to blackmail the killer, but ultimately met his fate later on. When the boy was about to close his notepad, Hassan raised a question furthermore about the "offended" portion where Lukman answered by asserting the portion were targeted to a local American pop star, Parker Segal as the idol had publicly criticized the serial killer on live television during his interview in a thriller convention. Afterward, the duo returned to the headquarters as Lukman ensured to gather more information discreetly.
On the other hand, Ridyan was seen enthusiastic as he was glaring at his phone notifying the whole squad that he finally got an opportunity to go on a date with his online date "CindyLove56" he met during the investigation in Monas on flesh. The tech expert asked forgiveness to the squad if he hadn't informed them all beforehand as it wasn't a big deal to the rest, but the squad ascertained it was okay. However, the tech expert hadn't set up a place to meet up with, and he had misplaced his tablet in the street. While returning there to locate the lost tablet, he eventually saw the tablet near the bushes and determined to set the date in the streets instead. But before he takes off on the date, he needs approval from his father as he does not want to get berated over a date due to his father being a preacher at a local Islamic boarding school and pretty much-disallowed romance without his permission. Assisting Ridyan to meet his father Fajar Ismail Ridyan in his home, they spoke to the preacher about his son's date. And although he initially rejected it at first, he hastily approves due to him getting intensified as his son retains to nag him like a troublesome brat. With the consent from his father, Ridyan arrived at the location to meet his date which turned out to be a talented violin prodigy Cindy Hermawan and tried to make a move at her...but all the acknowledgment he gets is a disappointed look from her face as she anticipated the boy to be handsome and good-looking. She then wailed at Ridyan to back off and labeled him as a "filthy creep" as she hurled her milkshake on his face and departed from the scene. Ridyan...filled with anguish and sorrow, dragged the player to return to the headquarters as the boy was indulged in sadness and did not want the worst to happen.
Withdrawing to the headquarters, Ridyan was seen gloomy...sitting on his bench without saying anything, conveying a worried look from Magdalena and Fanny as the two tried to soothe him as the boy grabbed his head on the sides tightly and stared at his table. Then Lukman had phoned the team again and informed the squad that Parker Segal had organized a concert in Jakarta, giving a high peril of danger as he could be a conceivable target for the serial killer. And the man who organized the set was none other than the Vice President, Try Tuttisno. Without further ado, Hassan and the player catechized the Vice President about Parker Segal's concert location for his safety, and the cooperative VP kindly gave the coordinates for Segal's concert, which was set in Taman Anggrek Mall. Having someone's life at risk, the team rushed to the mall as quickly as possible before it was too late.
