Luke was found dead beside his father's rented house with his body in a dumpster. Per the autopsy result, brown hairs had been found inside his hand, which meant that the killer had brown hair. Skin cells were also revealed under his fingernails and traces of bug spray (which he didn't use) were on his skin, revealing that the killer used bug spray and had scratches.

The killer turned out to be escaped convict Matt Barry.
Upon arrest, Matt denied the accusations but confessed a few minutes after. After Matt had escaped from jail under the name Barney Matthews, he'd started dating a girl named Luna Coltoire to blend in. However, Luna turned out to be Luke's girlfriend. Jealous, he had followed Luke home to his house, where he'd fought with Luke. He then cut Luke's head off after failing to poison him with the bug spray.
