—Case Teaser

Intelligence of Destruction is a case featured in Criminal Case as the one-hundred and seventy-fourth case of the game. It is the fifty-ninth case of The Mystery and the first case in Horizon Station.

After learning of the cult’s businesses in Horizon Station and the life sentence that was granted to Theodore Fawkes per the Chief, Diana and the player headed to the abandoned company building they found out previously, in search of clues leading to the leader of the cult. However in the lobby, they discovered the body of university film student Gregory Oldman, his neck pierced. Per Ethan’s autopsy, the victim bled to death after something stabbed him through the throat, and that he was able to confirm it wasn’t a knife. They then suspected economics student Christina Bateman, who told them that the victim was filming an apocalyptic film in the district ruins. They also found clues to suspect their police mechanic and part-time inventor Olivier Hunt and prop maker Bart Valliant before they were informed by Diego that he had discovered the victim’s trailer where he was working from.

After the detectives investigated the victim’s film trailer, they discovered clues to add computer tech major Samuel Lupo and drama teacher Sylvia Halton to the suspects. They then discovered that Gregory had tried to cast Christina as the monster’s wife for his film, which had insulted Christina, as well that he had stolen multiple props from Bart as the prop maker “wouldn’t need them anymore”. Later on, the duo was informed that some students were partying over the victim’s death. After the detectives stopped the party, they investigated and discovered that Gregory had intentionally broken Olivier’s high-tech camera, telling the part-time inventor that he was using worthless material, which angered him. They also discovered that Samuel had hacked into the victim’s laptop due to the victim mocking the animalistic people in his upcoming movie. They also learned about Sylvia’s hatred for the victim due to him always interrupting the show to ask for more props and other complaints. After an out-of-control bloodstained drone attacked the duo with a blade, the team then filed the bladed flying object as the murder weapon and they were able to arrest Sylvia for the homicide.

After they discovered Sylvia guilty of the crime, the drama teacher denied everything, telling them that she would never do such a horrible thing as any good teacher wouldn’t dare to do. But after Diana asked her if she would actually murder someone over props, she cracked and then let slip that he shouldn’t have stolen the letter. When Diana confronted her about what she meant, she simply replied that in a box of props the victim stole, he had taken the letter from Tracy Darcy prior to her death telling her to prepare the students for the next stage. She then told them that she couldn’t let Gregory find it, he would have blown the operation if he ever found it. So when he was alone, she maneuvered the drone right toward him, piercing his neck, but she couldn’t retrieve the letter due to the investigation. She then simply told them that she had sent a student to retrieve it so they wouldn’t be able to find anything before she then went silent. At the trial, Judge Brighton sentenced her to 60 years in jail for the murder and refusing to cooperate with the authorities.

After the trial, Diana and the player immediately headed to the abandoned lobby where they then caught Samuel searching around. After the team asked him what he was doing, he explained that he was asked by a teacher to go find some letter she had dropped. However after Diana told him it was related to the murder, he immediately told them he had no idea that it was related as he only thought it was some administration letter. After the detectives had him leave, they looked around and found a sheet of paper that looked to be encoded. After sending it to Erika and Alexandra, the duo of analysts were able to reveal that the next stage was that the drama teacher was putting recruits in her drama class. The letter further explained how she could teach them how to behave normally so that they wouldn’t be able to be recognized by the police in a crowd of people. The letter also revealed that, due to their mixed DNA with animals, the animalistic people of the city were unable to be recruited without causing uncurable side effects and extreme pain, per the Barker’s experiments. Maxwell then told them that he believed that per the two recruits they arrested, the behaviour could be some form of blood lust or willingness to murder.

Meanwhile, Diego came to the station precinct and informed the player that he had seen something weird near the film set and that he wanted to investigate it further. As the beat cop insisted that he believed it was to do with the Cult, they investigated and discovered an old briefcase that felt familiar to Diego. After the player unlocked it, they discovered multiple building blueprints such as the prison and the police station as well a series of tools that Diego believed were lock picking tools. After the player searched through the briefcase further, they uncovered a different plan of the prison with highlights informing the reader on how to attack the prison. After the duo quickly realized that someone was planning to attack the prison, Diego suddenly remembered why the briefcase was familiar. He then explained that the briefcase was Francisco’s briefcase that the deceased businessman dusted for personal business. After Diego muttered about how Jordan Brown could’ve stolen it for the current organization, he then agreed to help the player inform the warden. The duo, with approval of the chief, went to inform Sandalone Prison’s warden Woody Lester of what would happen. The warden quickly thanked them before promising that he would do whatever he needed to make sure whatever the Cult was planning were prevented.

After all the events, Chief Tempest then told them that despite the Cult rising up to commit their plans, she was happy that they had already made a head start with arresting one of their allies and uncovering information on their plans. She then told them that they needed to uncover the Cult’s headquarters and plans, as well stopping the recruits and identifying the last of the Cult’s main members.
