How the Cookie Crumbles is a case featured in Criminal Case, it appears as the thirty-seventh case in A World Forgotten and the two hundred and twenty-sixth overall. It takes place as the first case in the Serene Creek district of Ravenedge.
In the farmlands of Ravenedge, Serene Creek, the team endeavoured to find proof of Francesca Osborne's criminal actions. Agreeing to investigate a solstice celebration at the Osborne hunting lodge, Tobias was able to forge invitations to show at the front gate. Isabella and the player were first approached by Owen Osborne. However, instead of greeting them, he shouted at them to rush to the maid's quarters as he had found a body. There, scullery maid Irina Harrington was slumped against her bed, poisoned. They first interrogated Owen, where he recounted how Irina had helped him prepare for the banquet that evening. She started complaining of sickness and went to rest, only to be found dead by Owen a few hours later. Draco confirmed Irina was killed via poisoned cookies found in her digestive system, before banquet guests grandee Marcelo Gutiérrez and his wife Catallina Gutiérrez were also suspected. Outside the lodge, Isabella recapped their investigation with her notebook, before a figure clad in leaves and dirt ran to them - bleeding from their shoulder.
The figure then wiped the dirt away and revealed themselves as Eva Newman. After Moira stitched up her shoulder wound, Eva exclaimed that she'd been hired to watch the lodge discreetly but was shot by a pair of over-eager hunters. When asked who hired her, she stated it was anonymous. Rat catcher Louie Fitzsimons was suspected after his rat poison was used to kill Irina, though he insisted it was taken from his cabinet (in the banquet hall) days prior. Irina, poor and struggling to feed her new-born child, attempted to persuade Marcelo and Catallina to adopt him, though Marcelo refused and cited that the Gutiérrez didn't want children descended from criminals. Tobias then told the pair to rush back to the banquet hall as the Osbornes had disrespectfully started the event.
