Heaven Got a Little Bit Smoother is a case featured in Criminal Case as the forty-sixth case of Zombie Homeland and the first case in the Occipital Oaks district of The Walled City of Seattle.
Plot[]
In the aftermath of the beginning of the war, Chief Babineaux then informed Nick Moore and the player of a murder that had occurred, prompting the two detectives to head over to a local chapel in the district of Occipital Oaks. In the chapel, the detectives found the bloodied corpse of a pastor in a confession box, before Nick then recognized the victim to be university professor Stan Parker. They then investigated the church and the victim's university classroom, where the detectives were able to question medical intern and student Jackie Landry, grieving widow Andrea Wellington, and university film editing student Faith Costner in the homicide. Soon after, as Nick and the player looked over the case, Natalie then admitted that she went to the victim's church before, and that she knew where they could investigate next.
Natalie then told them that the church was connected to a graveyard that held the graves and coffins of the deceased, before the detectives then headed out to investigate the graveyard. They then found clues on the crime scene that helped the detectives add park ranger Jamie Williams and geese farmer Henry Franco to the roster of suspects, before finding out that Andrea left Stan's church after the latter admitted that he had grown affectionate for her despite his pastor duties. They also found out that Stan had lightly suggested Faith was not ready for the big leagues of filmmaking, which disappointed Faith, before they registered the murder weapon as a golden cross. They were then informed that Stan's classroom had been invaded by a group of students that had created a memorial for their professor. After the detectives were able to lightly usher the students from the classroom to continue investigating, they found out that Stan warned Jackie of the cutthroat world of medicine, as anyone could be cut anytime, that Stan and Jamie were next door neighbors and Henry refused Stan's insistence on cleansing his geese to make them more holier. In the end, they then found the priest's killer and a guilty sinner to be Jamie.
They then confronted Jamie about the homicide, and Jamie initially denied the accusations against him, before he ultimately confessed to the murder. Jamie then told the detectives that he killed Stan because Stan wasn't holy enough to be a pastor, due to his past drinking habits as shown in Stan's appearances in Amygdala Avenue, which infuriated Jamie. When Nick then said that it was proven by other suspects' testimonies that Stan had quit drinking and had been newly rechristened as a faithful helper of God, Jamie then denied Nick's facts and told them that God had specifically told him to cast Stan down to the depths of Hell. When Nick asked how Jamie got the message, Jamie then told them that when he was in the forest, he then heard a voice that seemingly came from a deer, telling Jamie to punish Stan for being a sinner in the holy house of Jesus, which drove Jamie to confront Stan. While Stan tried to calm down the maddened park ranger, Jamie had grabbed a large golden cross and swung at Stan, beating the pastor to death in his confession box. Jamie then told them that he had disposed of the golden cross in the church, stole Stan's prayer cross and threw it in the graveyard as he believed Stan did not deserve it. Nick then arrested Jamie and sent him to trial, where Judge Michalka found it suitable for Jamie to receive a lifetime sentence in an asylum with immediate psychological therapy for the murder. Soon after, Xavier revealed reports of a bomb in the church where the murder was committed.
The player and Xavier then strategized to head to the chapel immediately and track down the bomb, before the duo then hurried to the church. They then found a locked case that emitted a ticking noise, before the player was able to unlock it, to reveal a ticking bomb connected to a series of explosives. After the player and Xavier were able to work on disarming the bomb, the consultant then swore to dismantle the bomb and find out who had left the bomb in the church. After a few hours while Xavier dismantled and examined the bombs, Xavier then revealed that he was able to find fingerprints on the case, which directed the consultant to check with Natalie, revealing that Henry had touched the case. They then confronted Henry, who denied the involvement in the bombing as he was unaware of the bombs. Henry then nervously admitted that someone gave him some money and told him to move the case into the chapel. Henry then admitted that he did not want to question the authority and he then moved the case to the chapel. He then pleaded innocence as the geese farmer then gave the money he was given to the detectives as an apology.
Meanwhile, the player and Nick were then met by Jackie, who admitted to them that she wanted to talk to them. Jackie then told them that she had believed that Stan was working toward a zombie cure for the city before chaos erupted. In order to prove that a cure was in the making, Nick and the player then headed back to Stan's classroom, where they then found a torn letter written by the CDC about a small shipment of Utopium being sent to him. They then asked Olivier to closely analyze the letter, the laboratory chief then revealing that minute traces of Utopium was on the letter, meaning Stan had received the drugs. Speculating that Jamie was coerced into murdering Stan because of the cure, the player and Nick then questioned Jamie about where the voice talked to him, which the maddened killer confessed that he was near the graveyard when he heard the voice. The player and Nick then found a recorder in a tree stump, which they then heard the mysterious voice speaking to Jamie about killing Stan, before they then heard distorted voices mentioning "a new world". Nick and the player then headed back to the station to report to the Chief.
After all the events, the player and Nick then found Livia holding onto a crying Izabela. After Nick asked what had happened, Livia then told them that someone had died in the hospital under Izabela's mother's care.
