Flying Colors is a case featured in Criminal Case where it appears as the first case in Anbrusia. It takes place as the first case in the Aeropolis Airport district of Anbrusia.
Plot[]
After their plane ride had landed, the player arrived at the city of Anbrusia after having sought out a new job as an investigator. Waiting for them at the end of the gates was the chief of the ALEA, Qasim Bhargava, who welcomed the player with a smile. They were taken back to the precinct, being introduced to a couple of the members, including their tech expert Carlos de la Vega and their chief medical examiner Antonio Hernandez, before the chief had received an alarming call, alerting him of a murder that took place in the airport not too long after he had left. Qasim then proceeded to send the player off to investigate and mentioned that their partner would soon meet them there. Upon finding the victim’s body, a flight attendant by the name of Rebecca Lin, a cheerful woman jogged up to the player and introduced herself as Kessie Owusu, excited to work on her first murder case after gaining clearance from the chief. The two investigators began by looking for more clues around the scene, finding evidence to suspect hooligan Jonathan Vance after finding a bracelet he gifted to the victim and socialite Renée Sinclair per a photograph of her and Rebecca together. They also searched through the airplane cockpit of the plane Rebecca had been on, prompting them to talk to both pilot Marvin Foster and ticket inspector Ashley Janet, the latter of which was noted to have not gotten along with the victim. Kessie and the player were then informed that a large crowd had gathered around the airport entrance, demanding to be able to leave the airport.
Kessie and the player were able to divert the crowd away from the entrance and remind them of the ongoing investigation, and were able to discover that Rebecca had an argument with someone near the entrance of the city, where the sign was displayed. They found evidence that the killer had disposed of the poison near the entrance and traced the argument back to lawyer and one of the flight passengers, Shane Johnson, who claimed it had been a dispute surrounding the fact that they used to be in a relationship until she had one day caught him sleeping with Renée. When being asked about this, the socialite had blushed in embarrassment and explained that both she and Shane were extremely drunk and their night together meant nothing to one another. The investigators soon were to discover that Ashley had filed a complaint against Rebecca for her supposed “inappropriate” behavior and proceeded to flag another flight passenger, magazine model Carmen Fernandez as a suspect before they were approached by a drunk Jonathan, who admitted that Rebecca deserved what she had gotten and much worse. They asked him what exactly he had meant by that, where he revealed that had been chasing after her for a long time until he had found out recently that she was just stringing him along. After further investigation, the investigators discovered that Carmen had forged a plane ticket and Rebecca threatened to call the police on her, the victim had berated Marvin for being a new and young pilot and for his shy demeanor while he had been flying the plane, and Rebecca had blackmailed Shane with his job after their breakup. They then found all the evidence they needed to arrest Carmen for Rebecca's murder.
When confronted, Carmen had been aghast and accused the investigators of making such baseless claims and she could sue them for defamation. Kessie, however, presented the evidence calmly and had asked her that she should confess now since they knew of her crimes, causing the model to get quickly irritated and admit to killing Rebecca. Realizing she was backed into a corner, she was quick to spew vile comments about Rebecca’s looks and her poor service as a flight attendant. Carmen professed that Rebecca had been too slow on the flight at getting her something as simple as a drink or a snack, and at one point, had even caught her crying in the bathroom. All it took was asking Rebecca for a glass of water and the flight attendant proceeding to spill it on Carmen, and the model had been confident that Rebecca was simply out to get her. Either way, her behavior was completely unprofessional and she couldn’t stand it anymore. Carmen had recalled from her book a murder that occured with conditions similar to how Rebecca died, which is how she had set her plan in motion and gotten her inspiration from. Though of course since it would be difficult to possibly aim for Carmen in the crowded area, let alone find a place to fire the dart from, Rebecca instead decided to get close to Rebecca while a large crowd had been around and stab her in the neck with the dart, though her hand accidentally pulled away the pin on her clothes and it had pricked her finger, which explained the investigators finding said pin near the city entrance. Kessie had been shocked and disgusted at Carmen’s lack of sympathy and thinking she had been entitled to top quality service that she had not even paid for, and brought her before Judge Malik, who had shook her head in disapproval. The judge had stated that while Rebecca herself had done deeds intentionally that were unprofessional and was not a saint herself, it had not given Carmen the right to judge her on a simple bad day and decide what she deserved as punishment, and all it had done was prove Carmen’s arrogance and ignorant perspective of things, which deserved a sentence of 13 years imprisonment. After the trial concluded, Kessie couldn’t believe that something like that had caused Carmen to think murder was alright, but that’s what can be expected from those who had usually gotten their way for everything. But she wanted to put all that aside for now and introduce the player to the rest of the team formally by hosting a small party!
After Kessie proposed her idea, the player’s other partner, Kauri Maunga, had approached them both and explained that he needed to steal the player away for a moment, as one of their suspects needed help. Kauri and the player then spoke to a panicking Marvin, who said that his plane had been malfunctioning and it had to take off soon, but he didn’t understand why, as it had been working just fine in the morning. The two investigators searched the cockpit and discovered that the equipment and controls had been completely rusty, which Carlos himself looked at, and asked the pilot when exactly the last time the airport had done a check of the airplane mechanics was, to which he responded that it was a mere week ago, and it had been impossible, as even he himself checked it before he departed for the flight that Rebecca had been on. Kauri wondered if there had been a chance that the plane had been sabotaged deliberately, Marvin himself thinking that it would have been hard to do so as hardly anyone would get to access the plane while it had been on the ground. He ensured the pilot that they would investigate further and get to the bottom of what had been going. Additionally, Kauri and the player had found a broken locket in the cockpit, which they repaired and found it belonging to the late flight attendant, with a picture of her and her ex inside. Kauri felt as it was right for it to only be given to her ex, Shane, who had shared his gratitude for what they had given him and he wished he had gotten to make things right with Rebecca before she died.
On the other hand, Kessie had explained that a small party would be the perfect opportunity to allow the player to destress after the investigation and so they could talk to the others who they didn’t have a chance to yet, and suggested to look around the airport lobby as she had seen some vendors there that would provide good drinks and ingredients. In doing so, the two were able to gather the proper necessities, including a mix of beverages while Kessie had gotten the food, and she had thought it would be a good idea to send them to their profiler Mauricio Garcia, as he had also been an amazing cook and would make meals for the team to eat together as a family. Mauricio had greeted them with a charming smile and mentioned he was delighted to be able to work with a new person, certain that they would bring a new light to the team. Once everything had been prepared, the player had met the others that they didn’t get the pleasure of seeing before and had gotten to know them better. This included their tech expert, Carlos, who had been too shy to try to mingle with the others, sort of like the reserved lab chief Ichika Nakamura that was standing aside and watching from the streets from down below the balcony. Furthermore, the player had talked to the weapons expert, Roza Antonova, who despite her menacing demeanor had an easy time conversing with a friendly smile, though that’s to be expected of a former MGB agent. One of the newest recruits to the team along with the player had been a young person eager to get into the field, Dylan Davis, and they had invited the player to dance with them. Once that had been done, they spoke to the coroner, Antonio Hernandez and his assistant Safiya Hassan, who had joked about Antonio growing old to not understand the type of music that had been playing, which would explain his need for an assistant given his clumsy personality. They then met the former police chief Christopher Blackwood, who had been in the arms of his affectionate husband Jordan Blackwood, and the two revealed that they had decided to stay in the job to help the new recruits find their way and because they care about the wellbeing of the city. While Christopher told the player to not be intimidated by how different and overwhelming everyone had seemed and that they were good people at heart, he was suddenly whisked away by Jordan, who had given him a kiss and invited him to dance.
After the player had settled in, Kauri had approached them and informed them that they had a visitor, who happened to be Renée. It was surprising that she would come here to meet with the player, but figured it would also be good for them to speak to the daughter of the mayor, as in the city, it paid to have strong allies and connections. Renée had given them with a smile once she had seen the investigators and clarified that she wanted to greet the player under better circumstances, especially given that they would work to ensure justice for the city. She then remembered that her parents would be holding a gala, where anyone who was anyone in the city would gather, and it would be a delight if the team had been there, as the mayor would like to speak with them on private matters. Kauri told Renée that he would talk it over with the others, the socialite giggling and winking at him, responding that she would hope to see him most of all there. She then bid farewell to the duo, saying that she had an appointment with her friends to see through, but also that the player make themselves comfortable in the city and enjoy it, and to take good care of the place many called home…
Six weeks later... A person covered in black clothing would move along the dim alleyways and wait for their target to appear. Once the target did, they approached them from behind and placed a cloth over their mouth to prevent them from screaming. No matter how hard the target would try to escape, their body eventually gave out and they would fall unconscious in their captor’s arms...
