Goon Struck is a case featured in Criminal Case as the eighth case of Zombie Homeland and the third case in the Corpus Corner district of The Walled City of Seattle.

Plot[]

After the discoveries that human and zombie relations were growing tense due to the potential clashing between the zombie gang of Corpus Corner and human insurgents, they were informed of a murder at a local hockey arena. Nick and the player then headed to the arena, where they discovered the body of hockey player and known "goon", Harley Schultz, beaten to death and left in the goalposts. They then suspected two of the victim's teammates, hockey player Leon Patch and the team's goalie Jerome Granger, before they discovered clues to suspect the victim's friend Brent Blackhawk, who Nick started to have heart eyes for. Afterwards, the player and Nick were informed by Detective Cavanaugh that the victim's fiancée was sobbing about the victim's murder.

After they heard from Cavanaugh's lead, they headed to Corpus Corner Street, where they found the victim's fiancée Carmen Barrett, grieving her fiancé's murder in a café. They then questioned Carmen about the murder before discovering that the victim was helping a local prostitute, Regina Summer with clients. They then discovered that the victim was rough in his hockey games per Jerome, who had lost a tooth due to the victim and that Brent was a drug dealer, dealing drugs in the stadium to drug addicts. Afterwards, the player was searching for Nick, when they saw him playing in the rink with the other hockey players who were doing an exhibition game for local kids, roughhousing and trying to get a confession out of Leon. Soon after, Nick then had a vision before he was then hit by one of the players causing him to fall over and break a tooth. With a missing tooth, Nick then told the player that Leon was attacking the victim in the arena, telling him if he liked being the victim of a goon attack. They then questioned Leon, who simply told them that the victim was violent and that he was trying to stop the violence. Despite this, the team was able to register the murder weapon as a hockey stick and uncover enough evidence to incriminate Jerome Granger for the homicide.

They then confronted Jerome about the homicide and he initially denied the accusations against him. However, he cracked after the detectives confront him about the murder and he told them that the victim was in his way. He then confessed that he was a lone operator who helped the terminally ill with getting into the Walled City and turning them into zombies to prevent their deaths from their respective illness. However, when he was helping out a young man get through the wall, he ended up being late for one of the games, which led Harley to investigate. After Harley discovered Jerome's secret, he then confronted Jerome, asking him why he would lie to their teammates about his zombie secret, which caused Jerome to panic. He then stopped helping people out of fear of being exposed, before he saw a young woman die of Freylich Syndrome, which upset him. He then decided to put an end to Harley before the goon could expose his secrets, so he could continue his human smuggling. He then confronted his teammate and beat him to death, hoping that the victim's roughhousing with Leon would incriminate Leon as the killer. Nick and the player then arrested Jerome and sent him to trial, where Judge Michalka sympathized with Jerome's motive, but told him that murder and turning humans into zombies was wrong in the law of the Walled City, before sentencing Jerome to life in the zombie prison freezer for the crime. Afterwards, as Peyton and Livia comforted each other over the sad reveal, Nick then had a vision, which showed the Chief, who appeared younger, shouting at the victim.

The player then questioned the Chief (with Livia), who told them that years prior to working for Homicide and meeting Liv, he had been working in Vice, undercover in a gang that the victim was in. He confessed that he had changed after living a gangster life and he then suggested that they investigate the victim's affairs in order to find out more. They then investigated the locker room and discovered a handgun inside the victim's gym bag. Dale then confirmed that it was a handgun illegally registered, meaning it could've been from the group of human insurgents. They then talked to Carmen, who told them that the victim often went to the café, hence why she was grieving the victim there earlier. Livia and the player then headed to the café, where they found a napkin that had information that helped Natalie deduce that the victim was looking into the zombie gang's influence in KCEW, the local Seattle news.

Meanwhile, Brent came to the station to speak to the player and Livia. He then confessed that after the case, despite the fact that he was sure Nick was a zombie, he still wanted to ask him out on a date. Livia then asked him what he wanted to do and Brent told them that he wanted to find some season passes for hockey. Livia and the player then headed to the hockey arena with Brent, where they found a faded brochure that the player then restored, revealing that hockey players were giving out season passes for couples. They then talked to Leon, who supported Brent's proclamation for love, before the hockey player then handed Brent two season passes. Brent then excitedly headed to speak to Nick, then asking him out on a date. Nick then blushed and then told Brent about his zombie state. However, Brent then told Nick that he didn't care and that he would do anything for him. Nick then teared up and accepted the date, before Livia and the player watched the duo walk out of the station precinct.

After all the events with love in the air, Chief Babineaux then told the player and Livia that he had arranged for an investigation into KCEW the following week. Soon after, as Nick returned from his date with Brent, Clint then proposed to Dale, the weapons expert saying yes.
