Deciding Your Side is a case featured in Criminal Case as the one-hundred and seventy-eighth case of the game. It is the sixty-third case of The Mystery and the fifth case in Horizon Station.

After Major and the player were beckoned to a cult temple by former cultist and businessman Marcus Wellington following their discoveries, they then entered the temple’s sacrificial chamber and found Marcus’s mutilated body on the sacrificial altar. Due to the ‘TRAITOR’ written in Marcus’s fresh blood on the wall, Major concluded that Marcus could’ve betrayed the cult by revealing the temple’s location, or someone considered him a traitor for being under Francisco Redmoon’s influence years before. They then sent Marcus’s corpse to Ethan, who revealed that Marcus was mutilated and drained of half of his blood, leaving him to slowly die before Major swore to uncover Marcus’s killer, even if he hated him. Afterwards, the player and Major investigated the sacrificial chamber and the exterior of the temple, where they discovered clues to suspect private eye Jack Chapman, European community leader Sebastiano Di Bona and the deceased Chief Ernest’s widow Suzanne Ernest. Later, they were informed by Maxwell that someone was spotted recently at the Wellington estate.

After the detectives headed to investigate who was wandering around the Wellington's estate, they then discovered that reporter James Guerra and his adopted son, Marcus’s biological child William were there to collect the youngster's remaining belongings from the estate after James' adoption. The player and Major then suspected James, as well widowed novelist Elisabeth Sinclair in Marcus's murder. They then discovered that Jack had despised the victim ever since the victim got released from jail and that Marcus harassed Suzanne about hiring him as a personal lawyer, despite the widow having a low income. Soon after, the detectives were informed by Erika that security footage spotted the Beast wandering around the estate. After the detectives hurried to the estate, they discovered the severed head of The Warship with a message from Kendra, mocking them for believing that they could catch her again. After an annoyed Major and the player re-investigated the estate, they found that Marcus had threatened Sebastiano of exposing his secret if he didn’t back down from the community leader role. They also discovered how the victim tried to get his son back legally, but failed. This led to the lawyer to go far to try to take him back forcefully, angering James. They also found out that Marcus had broken a portrait of Elisabeth’s late husband in a fit of rage when the novelist refused to erase a part of her novel calling the former lawyer out. After discovering a bloody corvo, they were able to arrest Elisabeth Sinclair for the crime.

After the detectives was able to incriminate Elisabeth as the killer, the widowed novelist tried to deny the evidence, saying she wouldn’t commit such a crime after the death of her late husband. However, she eventually cracked and the novelist then told them that the detectives were smarter than she thought. She then. explained how Marcus had thought that, as Gamma, he could be able to manipulate the team and make them fall into the trap he had set for them. The novelist then continued, telling them that she was sure his plan would fail. She then realized that if she went to commit the deed of killing him, it would slow the team down as they would need to investigate the murder. She then explained how she simply had to use her talent as the Cult’s secondary assassin and evidence manipulator known as The Silence to sneak up behind him and knock him out before mutilating him and draining him of his blood. She also explained how it wasn’t the first time she had slowed them down by manipulating evidence from multiple killers to find, including her husband’s own killer after she found him out. In disbelief at Elisabeth’s heartlessness after her widowed novelist act, Major then arrested Elisabeth for her crimes, sending her to trial with Judge Brighton. The judge then asked Elisabeth if she was willing to reveal any information on the cult, and after the novelist denied to share information, then sentenced the Silence to a lifetime sentence for her crimes. Afterwards, with two of the four down, Chief Tempest told the team that they had yet to find the final two unknown and the escaped members of the cult.

After Elisabeth's arrest as the Silence and her reveal that Marcus was Gamma, Major then explained to the player that he remembered that in werewolf lore he has read as a child, that Gamma was considered the eldest and wisest of the pack. Major and the player then decided to return to the temple and find anything on the Cult that Marcus or Elisabeth may have left behind. They then investigated the sacrificial chamber and found a locked journal that may have belonged to Marcus. They then unlocked the journal, where they found notes on the Cult's nicknames, but not their true identities. They also found a stream of numbers before they decided to search outside the temple. They then investigated the temple entrance and found a concealed USB stick in a pile of leaves, which they then sent to Erika, who revealed that the USB key was handled by Marcus and Elisabeth and that the USB contained all the evidence about Elisabeth's action of planting and hiding evidence to incriminate several killers including Alesandro Costas, Mirembe Adebayo, Alexander Weiss, Connor Thompson and twenty other killers that the team had arrested. The USB also revealed that Elisabeth had tried to get Jordan Brown caught for the murder of Anthony Wolf to keep him away from the Cult and their plans, but Buck Shawn had to kill him to tie up loose ends.

Meanwhile James came to the station to ask for the team’s help. He then told the player and Diana that with Marcus’s death, his adoption process for William was able to be finalized. He then requested that they investigate the Wellington estate for the remainder of William’s belongings that the cultist lawyer had attempted to hide away from his son. Diana and the player then investigated the Wellington estate, where they found a safe that the player unlocked to discover a pile of toys and other memorabilia that belonged to William. However, Diana noticed a faded document amongst the safe’s contents, which the player dusted to reveal a will written by Marcus, giving all of his money to William when his son would turn eighteen years, in case he passed away before then. They then informed James about the discovery of the will, before returning the toys to William, who thanked them before the youngster left. James and Mia then thanked the player for helping their family, before wishing them luck on taking down the Gaulstone Cult.

After all the discoveries made into Marcus and Elisabeth, they then got a phone call from the Pyromaniac Chelsea Chapman, who insisted for the team to help her. She then explained that she had escaped from Kendra, who was holding her captive, and had fled to one of the laboratories to hide and call the police with whatever communications she could discover. She then trailed off as Major tried to call her, before Chelsea started to scream in panic, the call cutting short as Major looked at the player in fear...
