I used to be one of The Kitty Cats. [...] They noticed I'd become too powerful. I was not just their mole in the local police. If I wanted, I had the power to expose them.
—District commander Eva Dominique revealing that she used to be a prostitute and explaining how she was forced to cover up for her exploiters' crimes.

Cat Pursuit is the twentieth case in PetersCorporal's second season, Blue Coasts, as well as the sixth and second-to-last one in the City Center district.

Case Background

Nora MacMillon and the player were on the highway chasing Robert Steinberg's car, in which he was escaping with one of the prostitutes he exploited as his hostage, Camilla Sweeney. They needed to stop him not only to send him to jail, but to save Camilla since Robert had a gun with him. As they started to approach his car, it suddenly changed direction and stopped, right as they heard glass shattering. Not knowing what was going on, Nora stopped the police car right ahead of Robert's one and went with the player to see what had happened.

Inside the car, they found Robert's corpse and a traumatized Camilla. The surveillance camera showed that someone had shot him from a nearby square, Downtown Plaza, where Laila Myers was now working picking up clients, and where criminal journalist Gaston Arballo watched people looking for criminals. As Nora was thinking about how the killer would have known at what exact time Robert would drive through that point on the highway, Violet Nearnight appeared to inform that Anita Doorley, the killer from the previous case, had died after poisoning herself. This caused Nora to spiral down into a nervous meltdown, which prompted her to say she was a terrible cop and to start blaming herself for Anita's death, as well as the deaths of Steinberg himself, Nevada HillAmanda Sotomayor, and also Jean-Paul Takeda, his former police partner and boyfriend who died in yet unknown circumstances. After Violet tells her she was a part of the team for a reason, Nora gets even worse and says that this was not the moment to bring a certain Bob Way up. Annabelle Chashiroua calms Nora down and tells the player that until she's fully recovered, she will have to stay out of any murder investigation.

Now with Violet as a partner, the player went on to investigate the local shooting range and ended up adding Commander Eva Dominique herself to the list of suspects, along with shooting range worker Steve Barrell. After Laila told the player that The Kitty Cats were collapsing with the fall of their bosses with now only 1 person to take in all of the girls (whose only source of income was now at stake), another situation had to be handled. With Nora in already a delicate state, Pierre MacMillon suddenly appeared at HQ to drop Idaho off. Enfuriated at Pierre for not being able to be a good father, Nora shouted at him and said they were getting divorced, not without telling him she hated both him and his "stupid parents that got her into this for no reason".

After Eva tried to interfere in the investigation one more time, the team gathered enough evidence to arrest Gaston Arballo for the murder. He explained that he was investigating The Kitty Cats with Laila as his source of information. When Steinberg decided to escape, Laila called Gaston and told him about it, and coincidentally he ran into him at the diner by the highway. Knowing he would escape through the highway, he took the rifle from his car and waited at Downtown Plaza until Robert drove by the turnpike curve where he could shoot and finally put an end to his crimes. Judge Peggy Jasmine told him that gun violence was not the way to handle criminals even if he had noble intentions, and therefore sentenced him to 25 years in jail with parole in 10.

The next evening, Annabelle said she needed to talk to the player about Marthin Farren's autobiography, in which he mentioned that he'd lived in "a cabin by the big lake just outside of the city" before moving to South Coast. This meant that he had lived in the current district of New Lakeland, to which they would have to relocate to keep investigating. Aside from that, Annabelle mentioned that Marthin Farren had died on November 27, 1918, the same day that Reuben Thacks' execution was supposed to have taken place.

Besides that, George Nearnight told the player and Violet to ask for Eva's co-operation in bringing down The Kitty Cats to put an end to police corruption, but Eva said that if she did anything against them, she would get killed. Violet and the player kept investigating to find out more about The Kitty Cats, and found some documents in Steinberg's hosue related to Eva's job, even documents from when she was still in police academy, meaning that they knew each other for quite some time. They decided to finally get the truth from Eva, and she confessed that she used to work for Steinberg when she was young. She asked to be let go to become a police officer and even though he refused at first, it was later noticed that a mole in the local police would be useful. However, her career skyrocketed further than expected and once she became a district Commander, they knew she had too much power, so all three pimps placed restraining orders against her and threatened her to not investigate their crimes. With only 1 pimp left standing, Eva encouraged the player once again to find and arrest them.

Furthermore, it was discovered that Laila Myers was prepairing for a protest, so they went to ask her what the manifestation was about. She explained that hundreds of prostitutes were not able to immediately find jobs after their boss dies or gets arrested, so they needed to demand state assistance as victims of sexual exploitation until they could establish themselves.

The next morning, Jerry Bryar was happy to know that they'd be relocating to New Lakeland, but Chief Nearnight said that before moving there, they needed to arrest the last pimp who had killed someone in the Shokunin Grove fire... as well as solving another murder.
