Burn the Witch is a case featured in Criminal Case, it appears as the twenty-ninth case in A World Forgotten and the two hundred and eighteenth overall. It takes place as the fifth and penultimate case in the Mystveil district of Ravenedge.

Plot

As Sienna and the player recapped, villagers from a nearby village grabbed her by the arms, gagging and binding her, before dragging her away, plotting to trial her for witchcraft. Afterwards, an angered and worried Antonio kicked a stone, vowing to save Sienna. The team then regrouped, before Charity instructed the team to enter the village of Cordelia's Hill. Then, as they rushed in, they found a body burning at the stake. Antonio hurried forwards, worried it was Sienna, and quickly tried to extinguish the flames... revealing the burned body of herbalist Evelyn Putnam. Moira's autopsy revealed Evelyn died of smoke inhalation, before they questioned potions brewer Raven Hecate, gothic girl Antoinette Blackwood, and Lady Nightshade expert Lyra Payne. Then, as the team had to stop Antonio charging into the village, they heard word from Eva and Hope that the villagers were leading Sienna to the lake, preparing to see if she floated or drowned.

They rushed to the lake, where they found Sienna with a rope tied around her waist, the villagers preparing to throw her into the lake. The team began to fend the villagers off, as Antonio freed Sienna from the ropes. Sienna then bashed the head villager with a rock to disarm him, before hugging Antonio. After taking her back home, they questioned head villager Elmer Farrington and coroner Sylvester Wilde, who lived in the village. They also discovered Raven and Evelyn were working to stop the witch trials in Cordelia's Hill, but Evelyn then backed out of it. After questioning Antoinette due to Evelyn refusing to let her join the coven, Hope ran in with news - Evelyn's coven had threated to curse them forever if they didn't solve her murder by witching hour.

With the coven's message, they hurried back to the town, finding Lyra rummaging through the wood. She then revealed she was searching for information on Lady Nightshade, as she believed the town was connected to her murder. They also discovered Elmer came from a bloodline of witches and that Sylvester had contacted the victim for herbal remedies to cure his illnesses. Finally, the killer was exposed as Sylvester.

Sylvester tried to deny the accusations, insisting his innocence, before Lawrence demanded to know why he burned a poor woman at the stake. Sylvester snapped, telling them he killed Evelyn to protect the world, that she was an evil witch who deserved the flame. When asked why he thought that, Sylvester recounted how initially he believed Evelyn to be a helpful healer, asking for remedies to cure some of his illnesses. However, after he started taking her remedies, he began losing his memory, had difficulty concentrating, and was always confused about the time and place. Believing his life was ruined, Sylvester then believed Evelyn had cursed him, tying her up to the stake and burning her alive as punishment. In court, Sylvester recounted his story to the jury, telling them Evelyn deserved the stake. For his lack of remorse, Judge Haddid sentenced him to twenty-five years imprisonment.

Post-trial, the team were met by a proud Lawrence, who introduced them to his daughter Isabella Sinclaire. An excitable Isabella then hugged them, before awkwardly backtracking, telling them she'd always dreamt of joining the police and following in her father's footsteps, and after her application had been rejected multiple times, wanted to prove herself by putting a stop the witch trials once and for all. The trio then headed back to Cordelia's Hill, where a crowd of angry villagers led by Elmer blocked their path. After Lawrence kept them back, the pair headed inside. There, much to their surprise, they found evidence of Elmer practicing witchcraft. Determined, Isabella presented the evidence to Elmer, telling him to stop the trials or they'd reveal the evidence to the village. Elmer then cursed them, telling them to keep quiet, before finally agreeing to. Outside the town, Lawrence congratulated his daughter, who thanked the pair. She then told them she had a long way to go, but wanted to show them she could do it.

Meanwhile, the team met with Raven about Lady Nightshade. Raven then told them Ophelia was a sweet and gentle woman, who was always down on her luck, confessing she wanted to help calm her spirit however she could. Raven then told them that during the murder investigation of Annamae Harwell, she spotted Sylvester carving her body in the town square. With this news, they confronted Sylvester again, though he had no memory of taking Annamae's body from the morgue. They soon headed to Sylvester's house in the village, eventually finding bank records from the day of the theft. Hope then revealed Sylvester received payments from someone in the Blackwood family before and after Annamae's body was taken from the morgue. Draco then overheard this, before he started panic, soon hurrying out of the precinct. The team tried to stop him, but it was too late, as he insisted he couldn't handle his family lying anymore.

With this new evidence, they confronted Sylvester in the interrogation room, where he insisted he had no memory of making deals with the Blackwood family anymore, due to his illness. Lawrence and the player then met with Amethyst behind the glass, looking away from Sylvester. Suddenly, the candlelight started to flicker and was soon snuffed out, leaving them in darkness. As they stood in confusion, they heard desperate screams as Sylvester pleaded for mercy, before his hands pounded on the glass and cracked it. An awful gunshot cut through and ended the screams. Tobias then entered in with a candle, seeing Sylvester dead on the floor, a bullet in his brain. There, on the wall, was the word "SINNER", written in Sylvester's dripping crimson blood. A panicked team then met in the foyer, knowing Lady Nightshade had attacked once again. Believing someone in the Blackwood family to have involvement, they hurried to their manor... knowing the dark of the night was near.
