Role in Case(s)
Bernard was first spoken to when a picture of him was found with Yvette on a branch in the tree. Bernard said that he loved Yvette. She found him on the streets and said that she would help him start the gang. Bernard said that she was the best thing that ever happened to him.
Bernard was spoken to again when Yvette's phone was found, and a the same text was written to Bernard and Riff Cooper, the rival gang leader. Bernard said that he was outraged that Yvette cheated on him, but after all the help Yvette gave to Bernard, he forgave her. She bought root beers for Bernard when he was broke and tried to help him quit smoking.
Bernard O'Connor was found guilty of killing Yvette. He said that Yvette betrayed "The Flames" by being with Riff. Riff stood up in court at this point and claimed that Yvette was a good woman, and that he turned her into a monster. Bernard carried on to explain that once Yvette was a Flame she was always a Flame. And once she betrayed the gang, she had to be disposed of. So Bernard kidnapped her, and took her to the garden. Unfortunately, Yvette mistook this as some sort of anniversary present and didn't struggle. It was only until Bernard hit Yvette with the shovel that she realised what was going on. But it was too late. Yvette was hanging from the tree, and there was nothing anyone could have done.
Hamani Bhaatt sentenced Bernard to life imprisonment.
