—Teaser

Beacon of Hope is a case featured in Criminal Case, appearing as the forty-fourth case of the game. It is the forty-fourth case set in the city of Crimsonden and also the eighth one to take place in the Lighthouse Coast district.

Plot

Jean and Louis put on their police jackets on hearing of the murder, and rushed to the mayoral hall where the murder had taken place. The team noticed smoke, and realized somebody had blasted a bomb there, leaving a number of mayoral employees dead. The team put on the smoke masks, and tried to help as many people as they could, as ambulances and fire fighters gathered in the aftermath of the explosion. Jean and Louis then decided to climb up to the mayoral room... only to find mayor Derek Parker dead, his heart cut out with a dagger.

The team decided to investigate further knowing that they were walking into a deliberate trap. The team first suspected Ian's boyfriend Ansel Gardner, who denied any involvement in the murder, saying that he was only trying to help Derek, when the bomb went off. Jean raised an eyebrow, before moving on. The team also suspected Swift Heiress Sybil Swift, who said that the city was in shambles right now, but the team and the families had to stand together, before apologizing for her cousin Colton financing the conspiracy, which was in shambles. The team also suspected deputy mayor Josephine Granger, who remarked that she had to step up for the city of Crimsonden, and take charge in these troubled times before rushing off. The team also checked the mayoral tunnels, to suspect Malcolm Harmon. Malcolm said that he had been in the tunnels to save the mayor and smuggle him out, but failed. The team also learnt that the killer played the harp, and that the killer read non-fiction books, before learning that Josephine Granger was making a speech to the city.

The team went outside, to see Josephine swearing a vow to become permanent mayor of Crimsonden. The team looked dumbfounded on Josephine's face, wondering if she was going too far, before searching the speech podium. The team found evidence to suspect James Clarke, Rosalyn's husband, who said that the city needed to be brought to stability as soon as possible, as Jean shared a look with the player. The team also learnt that the killer used perfume, before having to suspect police informant, Vicky Carson. Louis protested Vicky's innocence, but Vicky gave a smirk saying she would be okay. The team finally suspected the escaped Irish Businessman Christian Byrne, who evaded arrest, and talked through a tablet after his location was tracked. The team also learnt that Ansel had punched Derek and declared "Christian was a better mayor" after Derek made a homophobic comment. The team also learnt that Josephine was going to oust Derek from office, days before the conspiracy coup. The team also learnt that Sybil had tried to ask for an opening in the police department, after Nicholas' arrest, but she was laughed off. The team then learnt that Christian had been tracked.

The team rushed to arrest Christian, who sweared loudly, before trying to punch Jean, but the handcuffs were already put on. After keeping Christian in their custody, the team decided to talk to James, who had brought up that Cornelius might be corrupt, and the mayor ignored his warnings. James gave a scoff, saying he was right, before learning that Vicky had asked Derek to remove Allen Roberts from the mayoral cabinet, because his proposals were far-right, but Derek chose Allen over Vicky. The team finally learned that Malcolm had been shot in the line of duty mainly years ago, defending the mayor, but the mayor brushed him off by saying "stuff happens". Finally, after the evidence, the team arrested Christian Byrne for the murder.

The team knew that Christian was in the holding cells, so Jean and Louis rushed down there... only to find an empty cell, a piece of wire, and a video camera. The team knew what had happened, but moved cautiously towards the table, before wearing gloves not to contaminate the evidence, before switching on the camera. The camera showed Christian with the piece of wire, and him slowly taking out the handcuffs, before bragging that a masked team member had slipped them anyways. Christian then laughed, saying that he knew he had lost, so he played his final gambit, putting a bomb in the mayoral office. He continued that he hoped Derek's body would send a message to Crimsonden about the "true" mayor, before saying that he had still won, and that the traitor would bring the team down from the inside. The video then shut down, and the detective duo looked at each other, before Chief Carpenter called everybody to her office for the next steps...

The team asked Eleanor if she knew anybody who could help, and Eleanor remarked she was close friends with fisherwoman Phyllis Selby and that they could ask her to close the docks to prevent Christian's escape from Crimsonden by sea. The team talked to Phyllis, and Phyllis said that they could do the docks closing, but they needed a map of the docks area, and a mayoral stamp. The team got the mayoral stamp from the mayor's burned office, and Rosalyn repaired the burned stamp, before stamping the dock closing stamp before giving the stamp back to Phyllis. Phyllis called her employees, and told them all to make sure that Christian or any conspiracy workers would not be allowed on the fishing docks, before donating the part of her salary to Eleanor and the team.

The team then met with Allison, who said that she had been feeling lonely without her sister these past days, even though her sister was a horrible person. She felt that Ansel should have been punished for the crime, before Ian defended his fiance, by saying that it was a crime of passion, and not premeditated. The team tried to find the original footage, and recovered it with the help of Joel. Corinne said she should also come with Ansel, as both of them had lost so many people. Ansel took the footage after Ian reluctantly handed him that, before he crushed it beneath his feet. Allison angrily punched Ansel, before saying that he would never be a good person. Corinne said that some things can to be done with a heart, and not logically, before Ansel stormed off.

Joel then said he doubted the team traitor killed his mother, saying his mother confessed to not seeing the traitor conspiring with Cornelius Cross. The team went to the mayoral tunnels, where they found a map of the city, with areas of Beach Coast and River Banks highlighted with a red parker, and some wine spilled on the top. The team sent the map to Rosalyn for analysis, and Rosalyn said this person was working alone, and the numbers 1, 9 and 6 were scribbled in a random pattern, with the 9 appearing thrice, the 1 appearing thrice, and the six appeared only once. The team wondered what the numbers went, before the profiler mentioned that this figure wanted to destroy the department with the manipulation of the traitor, and manipulating Christian, before Evelyn rushed in... a dead body had been found stabbed in the department... meaning the traitor has struck.
