As the Raven Awakens is a case featured in Criminal Case where it appears as the fifty-fifth and the penultimate case in Sinner's Enigma. It takes place as the sixth and penultimate case in the Ashened Abyss district of Evergrace.
Plot[]
After Katelyn ran out after finding a rorschach test mentioning the words "the Raven has awaken", Chief Sinnett then told the player and Cameron to head out to the valley to stop Katelyn from confronting her sister, the serial killer known as the Crow. The player and Cameron then headed out to the valley, soon traversing through the forests of the Valley, before they found Katelyn in shock as she held a spool of rope in her hands, looking at the corpse of her sister. They then questioned the junior detective, who was confused and unsure of whether she committed the murder or not. They then investigated an old mayoral office that was used by the city decades prior, before finding clues to suspect interim mayor Ramona Samson's assistant Charlotte Donahue, hustler Logan Ziegler and con man Octavian Markham in the homicide. Soon after, Chief Sinnett told the detectives that they had been betrayed, saying that Inspector Cortez had released corrupt judge Elisa and their former Chief, Shawn Wakefield, from prison.
Chief Sinnett then explained that Ramona has not approved the releases, meaning that the Inspector was working for ENIGMA, or for himself. The detectives then confronted Inspector Cortez, who simply told them that he had released them to help with the investigations into the Crow’s murder and that Elisa had alleged to help them stop ENIGMA. Forced to rely on Cortez’s testimony and due to their investigation, they then added him to the roster before Camilla revealed that she had found Kyndall’s hideout. There they then found undeniable proof to confront and arrest ENIGMA acolyte Isabel Lannuzzi for her crimes. They then discovered that Octavian knew of Kyndall’s whereabouts and that Logan had tried to trade sexual favours with Kyndall for money before the latter’s arrest for murder. They also found Katelyn after she had ran away, the junior detective fearing that her genetic connection to Kyndall had made her a killer due to her possession of the murder weapon. After all the events, they were informed that Charlotte had put out a bounty for the head of Kyndall’s killer.
They then confronted Charlotte, who admitted that her bounty may have been a bit violent, but she insisted that she was only trying to get the killer caught. With the citizens searching for the Crow's killer in order to get the bounty, the player and Cameron then continued their investigations to find Kyndall's killer. They then found out that Inspector Cortez was angry at Kyndall for injuring prisoners due to the massive amount of paperwork he had to fill out and that Isabel started to believe that Kyndall was starting to become a liability due to the insanity that drove her to murder Ezra Monaco in cold blood. They then collected all the evidence and finally found enough proof to incriminate Isabel as the killer.
They then confronted Isabel in her holding cell about the murder and Isabel initially denied the accusations against her. She then sighed and admitted to her involvement in the murder, telling them that Kyndall was indeed a liability to ENIGMA, and that she schemed to pin the blame on Katelyn to cause the police’s house of cards to fall. She then confessed how she hunted Kyndall down, confronting her and then attacking her, before strangling the serial killer to death. She then explained how she used scopolamine, a drug used for anesthesia, to stun Katelyn after finding her, and then leading the delirious Katelyn to the scene where the murder was committed, handing her the murder weapon. She then walked away from the scene, knowing that evidence and proof would accuse Katelyn for the murder of her own twin sister due to the likelihood that they both shared the same genetics and therefore Katelyn could’ve been accused as a “killer” like her sister was. They then arrested Isabel for her crimes and took her to Judge Lorelle, who sentenced Isabel to a life sentence in solitary confinement for the murder and all her other crimes serving ENIGMA.
The player and Cameron then headed to question Charlotte about a finding the assistant had made. She then told them that there was old files on the city and the criminal threats that had been archived there. The player and Cameron then headed to the old mayoral offices, where they found the files on Evergrace inside a locked box. They then sent the files to Skylar, the archivist then revealing that ENIGMA had been around for a few years, only hidden away and slowly stepping out of the shadows. Skylar revealed that the organization had left hints such as graffiti in the city and posters of motivation, saying that people must do better dealing with the sinners. The player and Cameron then confronted Isabel in prison, where the malicious woman then told them that ENIGMA was going to win, and that they would fall. Cameron then questioned her about the existence, before Isabel confessed that ENIGMA was a small spark that quickly grew over the last few years, due to the organization's growth. She then told them that ENIGMA will not be stopped from their end goal.
Cameron and the player then decided to head back to the valley where Kyndall was found murdered, in case Isabel had hidden something there. They then discovered Isabel's satchel that had been camouflaged into nature. The player and Cameron then searched the satchel and found a map inside, the map detailing an ancient temple. The player and Cameron, accompanied by Skylar, then confronted Isabel one final time about the temple. Isabel then looked at her niece sadly and asked her why she would betray her own flesh and blood. Skylar then retaliated and told Isabel that her aunt never cared about her, as she never visited, never came to family gatherings, never came to say happy birthday. She then told her that even if her father was dead six feet under and her mother was in prison, she would love them because they were actually there for her when she was younger, and as she grew up. Skylar then told Isabel with a finality, that if she cared about her niece, that she would help the department with the location of the temple, before leaving. Isabel then sighed and reluctantly divulged the location of the ENIGMA's temple.
Meanwhile, Diana and the player met up to talk about helping Katelyn face her demons. They then went to see the junior detective, who then agreed to visit her twin sister's hideout to find peace within herself. There, the player, Katelyn and Diana found a faded locket that the player was able to restore to its former glory. The player and Diana then discovered that the locket was Kyndall's, due to the photos of Kyndall and her twin sister inside the accessory. Katelyn then exhaled, as she then took the locket, and the junior detective then relaxed, remembering her past memories with her sister. She then swore to take down the criminal organization that had corrupted and killed her twin sister, once and for all. Soon after, as Diana and Katelyn walked through the forest, snow starting to fall, Diana then stopped Katelyn, before she then proposed to the junior detective, before Katelyn burst into tears and said yes.
After all the events, the player and Katelyn were talking to Chief Sinnett about the ENIGMA's secret temple. With one final chapter ahead of them, Katelyn and the player swore to put an end to ENIGMA, by arresting the criminal organization's leader, once and for all...
