Apart from Significant Other is a case featured in Criminal Case, appearing as the thirty-seventh case of the game as well as the city of Alpha Bay, and the fifth one to take place in the Bayside Corner district.

Plot[]

After getting the call from an anonymous person who implied that someone bad had happened to Felicia Steppingstone, the player went quickly to her house where Susan met them after a minute and greeted quietly. Together, they went inside with their guns in hand. Soon after, they stumbled upon the bodies of Felicia and her fiancée, beat cop Misty Gilbert, as the former was lying dead with a gunshot wound on her heart, while the other was shot to head.

Susan was terrified to see them dead and muttered it was totally unfair to separate them just when they got engaged. Being determined to find their killer, the team started their investigation by sending the bodies to Eva. Then they searched the place and found some clues which allowed them to learn that famous actor Stefan Joseph was excited since he was looking forward to work with Felicia in their upcoming movie, and that Misty had mistakenly arrested tennis player Tarot Shinebright, thinking he was handling drugs. Following Tarot's lead, the team went to the police academy and found the murder weapon, which was a gun belonging to police academy student Tobias Larsson, prompting them to question him. However, he said he had lost his gun earlier that day and that as Felicia was his friend, he wouldn't kill her. Soon afterwards, Eva said that both of them died out of blood loss and concluded that the killer drank cocktails as both of them were covered in it.

Later on, Troy approached the team and said that Felicia's father Rex Steppingstone was giving a speech about her daughter's murder, and that her words made the journalists lose their temper. Hearing this, the team rushed to the press conference and learnt that Rex was saying he'd burn down the whole film industry if his daughter's killer didn't get caught soon, which triggered the journalists. Soon after, they added railroad engineer Jean-Jacques Chevalier to their suspect list, since he knew Misty from her childhood through her father, and looked after her as his own daughter. Besides, it was revealed that Stefan hated Misty since she had him in gunpoint and scared him, thinking that he was a criminal, and that Tarot had invited Felicia to his next match.

Soon afterwards, the team went to the conference again, where they found a drunk Jean-Jacques who was giving a speech saying how Felicia was responsible for Misty's death. The team quickly took him outside and waited until he got sober. When asked to elaborate, he said that as an actress Felicia had many rivals, so technically it was her fault that Misty got killed. Susan said police line was dangerous as well, and went with the player to search the area. Soon, they came to know that Tobias hated Misty since she had requested the academy to make him fail despite showing excellent skills, while Rex didn't approve his daughter's relation with Misty and threatened to drive her away from home.

After searching the primary crime scene, the team got enough clues to arrest Tobias for the murders.

When confronted, Tobias tried to deny but eventually admitted that he was the killer. He said that he was told to kill Felicia only but he had to kill Misty as well since she had entered the room just when he shot Felicia. However, he continued by saying that Felicia was a part of Gifted Minds, and that she had done a big mistake by leaving their organization. Susan asked him why leaving the group was a mistake, and he said that their organization chose people who had potential and promised them fame and wealth. But recently some of the people just started to fail to obtain those, making the leader decide that only the people with true potential would be able to join them. And to ensure that, the leader made a plan, which Felicia came to know and decided to spread that to the media to warn other members. Susan got disgusted and asked what was the plan, and he replied that he wouldn't say anything about their leader and used a smoke bomb before escaping the place.

The team quickly got out from there only to find nobody, and alerted the station about Tobias' escape, just when Nancy Carson approached them and said that Tarot had been kidnapped. The team asked her to give details, and she said that she was his friend and that they were talking outside the conference area. But after he left, she heard a loud scream and thought to check what happened, but there was no sign of him. The team told her not to worry before going to the place where they found Tarot's broken night vision goggles with Jean-Jacques' fingerprints on it, prompting them to question him. However, he said that he went to the alley after hearing a scream and found those and that he had seen a car going towards Felicia's home quickly. So, the team quickly went there and found a notebook containing a list of names which was sent to Troy. After analyzing the notebook, he said that it was the list of people who went missing recently, and that counting Gifted Minds' works, it might be them who were kidnapping people before revealing that all of the kidnapped people are celebrities. He then advised them to talk with Kate Sky since her son, Jason Fernis' name also in the list. When interrogated, Kate said that Jason got kidnapped just after her ex-husband became famous, and that Robert had been obsessed with satan worshippers before his death, confirming the team's suspicion about Gifted Minds being behind the kidnapping cases.

Meanwhile, Susan and the player headed to the police academy since according to a source he was last spotted there. There, they found a torn mask and restored it before getting surprised to see that the face mask resembled Tobias' face. They decided to send it to Rupert who after a few hours said that it was made and worn by an artist named Levi Twinclone, prompting them to question him. Under pressure, Levi cracked and admitted that he was the real killer, and Susan asked him where the real Tobias was, and he replied that he couldn't care less. When asked why he disguised as Tobias, he said that Tobias' features were similar to him and that it seemed a good idea to be a rouge academy student to commit murder. Hearing so, Susan said that the plan was totally failed and took him to the trial where Judge Powell sentenced him to life in prison.

Back to the station, Susan wondered what happened to Tobias as Troy checked the academy's database, but got no idea about his whereabouts. Right then, Joseph Huntington called them and said that they'd need to go to the crypt party if they wanted to stop Gifted Minds, causing Susan to mutter that it could be a better place than that to investigate.
